Lady Cats Lose To Darlington

The Dillon Lady Wildcats lost one 7-4 to Darlington in extra innings on Tuesday, April 25, in varsity softball action played in Dillon.
Tori Grimsley retired the Darlington players 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning.
Auh’Kieria Smiling led off with a walk in the bottom of the first inning and scored on a double hit to the left field fence by Brittany Miller to give Dillon an early 1-0 lead.
Dillon once again held Darlington without a score in the top of the second inning and was able to place 3 runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second when Tori Grimsley garnered a walk, Taylor Blackmon hit into a fielder’s choice and Tori was out at second, Emilee Price arrived safely to first on an error, Auh’Kieria Smiling also walked, and with the bases loaded A’Doshia Graves hit one to left field that bounced off the left fielder’s glove and 3 runs scored.
The score remained Dillon 4 and Darlington 0 until the top of the fifth inning when #11 for Darlington walked, and #17 for Darlington hit one between left and center for a double and a rbi to make the score Dillon 4 and Darlington 1.
#22 for Darlington sacrified bunted, and the runner advanced to third. #71 for Darlington hit one to the shortstop, and the ball was bobbled and a run crossed home plate to cut Dillon’s lead to 2.
Darlington placed 2 runs on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth to knot the game at 4. #12 for
Darlington led off the inning with a hit down the third base line for a single followed by #38 who picked up a walk.#8 for Darlington advanced the runners to second and third on a sac bunt. #11 for Darlington hit one to left for a single and 2 rbi.
Darlington stopped a threat in the bottom of the sixth inning by gunning down a runner attempting to move from second to third.
Neither team could muster a score in the seventh inning and was forced to play extra innings.
Once again, after 8 innings the score was still knotted at 4 each. A tie-breaker was used in the ninth inning and Darlington prevailed scoring 3 runs and held Dillon to no ones.
Dillon will host a region playoff game tonight (Thursday, April 27),
