Jerry Alton Jones

Mr. Jerry Alton Jones, son of Mrs Haley Herring Jones and the late Mr. Grady Horace Jones, departed this life Friday, February 10, 2017 after a courageous battle against cancer.  He was 67 years old.
Mr. Jones was born July 23, 1949 in Dillon County.  He was a graduate of Dillon High School and a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.  He served his country in the Vietnam War and later his community as a farmer for over 40 years.  Known for his personality, he was loved by all.  His passion and love for his family, generosity, and kindness influenced so many and will forever remain in the lives of all those who knew him.  Mr. Jones spent his leisure time with family and friends, fishing and showing his Tennessee Walking Horses.
His wonderful life will forever be cherished by his wife of 49 years, Sylvia Rowell Jones; daughter Julie Jones Hatcher (George); son Grady Thomas Jones (Nicole); grandchildren, Ashlyn Amanda Hatcher, Avery Winston Hatcher, Madalyn Brea Jones, and Thomas Logan Jones; mother, Haley Herring Jones; sisters Patricia Jones Anderson and Rebecca Jones Brady (Ashley); In-laws John and Dorene Rowell; Sisters-in-law Carolyn Rowell Webster (Larry) and Edna Rowell Elvington (Michael),  Dottie Hamilton Jones and Dannette Elvington Jones; devoted aunt Helon Herring Hasty and special cousins Jinx Berry and Andy Hasty; eight nephews; seven nieces and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Grady Horace Jones, brothers Jimmy Horace Jones and Grady Edward Jones.
Visitation was held Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall.  A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Jerry Alton Jones was held at 3:00 p.m. with interment at Greenlawn Perpetual Care Cemetery following the service.
