After devoting 13 years of practice in a game she loves, Brittany Miller’s pursuit became a reality on Wednesday, Nov. 16, as she signed with Florence- Darlington Tech to play softball at the next level. After years of devotion to the game she loved and with the support of her family she was able to advance her career.
At the signing ceremony held at Dillon High School, Athletic Director Jackie Hayes got the ball rolling as he exclaimed this is an exciting time for us as Brittany Miller has committed to Florence- Darlington Tech. “Congrats to Brit!”
He addressed Brittany directly as he stated “You’ll be in the big world next year.”
Coach thanked the parents for their involvement in Brit’s career as he also informed Brittany that she, too, should thank them.
Coach Hayes gave Brittany some remarks to live by as she moved to the college level. “In college before you make a decision, ask yourself what Mom and Dad would do.”
Coach also thanked all of Brit’s coaches.
It was quite evident that Coach Hayes really was interested in Brittany as he remarked to the ones gathered that Brittany was a model student and athlete. His last comment to Brittany was “We appreciate you.”
Brittany always strived to do better on each outing as she was encouraged and supported by all members of her family, especially her Mom and Dad. However, her inspiration came from her older brother, Bryant.
It’s always been quite evident that Brittany excelled at the sport she loved at an early age. For example, she hit 2 grand slam home runs when she was only 12 years old!
Brittany will carry attitude and work ethic with her to the college level as she has always displayed throughout her life.
Her transition to Florence- Darlington should be an easy one as she likes the school and the team there.
Brittany should have no problem of receiving playing time as she not only plays first base well but she can also play the hot corner, third, well also.
Brittany’s parents, Darryl and Valerie, have always supported her in every venture she has pursued, especially in softball where both have driven her to practice and even practiced outside of scheduled practice sessions with her. On many occasions one could ride by the Dillon Kiwanis field and would notice Brittany and her father practicing for long durations of time. Not only did Brittany participate in Kiwanis, junior high, and high school softball, she also played travel ball which has become so popular.
The practice must have paid off as she picked up such awards as HSSR All State and 8-2A All Region and others.
Brittany was never satisfied with her playing ability and always strived for improvement.
Darryl and Valerie Miller, proud parents of Brittany had this to say of their daughter. “We are extremely happy for her. She has worked hard since starting in the Kiwanis League. She continues to work hard in the athletic field and in the classrooms. We support her decision to play at Florence -Darlington. She has always told us that she had 2 goals–to wear black and gold for Dillon and play at the next level. She has accomplished that. We are really proud of her and her accomplishments.”
“She has always been very hard-working and dedicated to the game giving 100% all of the time. She is a great first baseman with a big stick at the plate,” exclaimed Coach Burt Rogers who coached her from age 8 until 16 and in travel ball.
Coach Robert Gray, one of Brittany’s earlier travel ball coaches stated “Brittany has been with me since she was 10. She works extremely hard! I was her first travel ball coach, and she continues to come to me for hitting lessons. I feel Brittany will make a big impact for FDTC softball, and I wish her all the best.”
Coach Lee Ellis of Aynor, coach of the Carolina Travelers, stated “Brittany has always been a passionate player.
She works hard, never accepting defeat. One of the best attributes of Brittany is her willingness to accept criticism and allowed herself to be coached…knowing it would only make her better. She takes it in like a sponge, and you see it as she plays the game of softball that she loves so much. I’m very honored and proud to have been able to contribute to her life and her softball career.”
Dillon High Head Softball Coach Kelvin Roller was also complimentary of one of his star players, Brittany Miller as he stated Brit has been a big part of Dillon’s softball program including the state championship. She has dedicated herself to the game. She was brought up in an athletic family. She is one of the best athletes I’ve ever coached not only in softball but also in football. I appreciate the support of her parents and family. I am happy that she has the opportunity to continue to play on the next level.”
