JT Melton and Johnna Rogers of Dillon High School were recently named the winners of The Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. This distinguished award recognizes high school seniors for their academic achievements, athletic excellence, and community involvement.
Melton plays football for Dillon High and is the son of Jermaine Melton, while Rogers plays softball and volleyball and is the daughter of Burt and Johnnie Lynn Rogers.
Principal Timothy Gibbs was ecstatic to hear the news and stated, “they are a great representation of what we are trying to accomplish here at Dillon High.”
In 1994, Wendy’s founder, Dave Thomas, created this award for students who share Wendy’s values of giving back to their communities, treating people with respect, and excelling academically and athletically. His purpose was to emphasize the importance of a great education and using that education to give back to their respective community. Over two decades, the Wendy’s and Heisman partnership has awarded more than two million dollars to deserving candidates.
State finalists will be selected Wednesday, November 2nd. Two winners from each state, one female and one male, will be revealed before the field is narrowed down to 10 national finalists. Those 10 finalists will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City to attend the ceremony that will announce the two national winners.
