First Presbyterian Church Of Dillon Reaches Out To Community After Hurricane

It all started while passing out non-perishable foods and water to anyone came to the doors of the church, a few members and ministry leaders just felt like more could be done for their community. The idea of providing just a few hundred hot meals came to mind, but that small idea turned into something much larger.
By the end of this past week, First Presbyterian Church had distributed over 1,500 bottles of water, around 1,000 hot meals, and even more grocery items, toiletries, and baby supplies. They even began receiving hundreds of clothing items that ranged from infants to adults, which were also distributed during operation hours of the church throughout the week.
Hunter Huss, a member of First Presbyterian and one of the key leaders of this project, said, “I’m a teacher, and I have been so worried about my kids. When you teach, your students become like your own, and the thought of them being hungry, or anyone in our community, is devastating. God put it on my heart to do something, and I can cook, so that’s what we did. This is a small town and we all love and support each other. The Lord multiplied our efforts. Everyone came together to help provide, and we will continue to do so anyway we can.”
With even further labors, many of First Presbyterian’s members have been assisting in the cleanup efforts around the community by cutting trees, hauling large branches, and much more.
Matthew Adams, the Director of Youth and Student Ministries at the First Presbyterian, said, “We have been so excited with how our church and our members have responded to the needs of our church members and our community. It is encouraging to see First Presbyterian Church taking the words of Christ seriously – they truly love their neighbor as themselves. They have selflessly given of their time and donations to really reach out to help one another. It’s been amazing to watch!”
First Presbyterian Church’s denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America, has also quickly put together disaster relief teams that will serve Dillon and the greater Pee Dee area in the coming weeks.
First Presbyterian would like to thank all who came out to volunteer in this project and all who gave donations to fund the costs. It is only by the sacrificial help of these great people that they were able to help many in need.
