Wellness Center Has A Great Deal To Offer Citizens

The City of Dillon Wellness Center, opened in 2007, has a great deal to offer the citizens of Dillon and Dillon County.
Not only does the Wellness Center offer a top of the line fitness center, but it also provides a space where a variety of different events can be held.
The fitness center has both cardiovascular and weight machines. Some of the machines available include treadmills, crosstrainers, stair climbers, lifecycles, seated rowing machines, leg press, leg extension, leg curl, chest press, back extension, pulldown, shoulder press, biceps, curl, triceps extension, ab crunch bench, and more. There is a free weights area and an area for aerobics/dance classes. The trained staff is available to answer questions and provide assistance. Other amenities offered include men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers, a lounge, a dry sauna, wireless internet, and cable television. A walking track and gymnasium are also available within the facility. There is also an outdoor walking track.
Users of the fitness center can pay a $5 daily user fee or can take advantage of one of the memberships and pay on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis. Individual, couple, family, parent/child, senior, senior couple, young adult, and corporate memberships are available. Anyone can use the indoor and outdoor walking tracks free of charge.
A variety of classes are available including:
Spin Classes
Rhythm Ride (Miriam Hayes) – This is a multi-level group workout that will challenge your fitness ability like no other. You will experience a variety of riding positions from seated to standing and create a challenging ride by adjusting resistance. It is a super fun cardio workout while pedaling to a variety of fun motivating music! Classes are Tuesdays at 4:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m. and Fridays at 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m.
Total Body Jam Spin with Weights (Miriam Hayes) – while spinning to upbeat music, you get an intense full body workout. It challenges each rider with high power resistance and a variety of weights, such as free weights and weighted bars. This class will work every muscle in your body and will push you to new limits. Classes are on Mondays at 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 4:15 p.m.-5:15 p.m.
Group Power Strength Ride (Michelle Moody) – This is a 50 minute ride that will test your mental strength and burn lots of calories. You will stay motivated while working at your own level, focusing on increasing your endurance, and improving your strength. This ride is sure to tone and sculpt your hips, thighs, and buttocks as well as your upper body and core muscles. Classes are on Thursdays from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
Spin Core (Michelle Moody) – This class incorporates cycling, core training, and stretching – all in one hour! Beginning with 30 minutes of energizing, express ride designed to keep you in a fat-burning zone while toning and shaping your lower body. Next we will bein core training exercises that will strengthen the abs and back, and we will finish with relaxation techniques and full body stretches. Classes are on Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
Aerobics Classes
Low Impact (Donna Hill) – A low intensity, low impact aerobics class perfect for the active older adult. Includes resistance training, balance, and flexibility. Classes are Monday-Wednesdays, & Fridays at 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m.
Dance Fitness (Miriam Hayes) – Take the “work” out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class. Classes are Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m.
20/20/20 (Miriam Hayes) – This class consists of 20 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of strength training, and 20 minutes of core conditioning. For all fitness levels from beginner to expert! Classes are Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Retro Recess (Miriam Hayes) – Thirty (30) minutes of intense training using weighted hula hoops, jump ropes, and exercise balls. It is a little recess and a lot of fun! For all ages and fitness levels. (Class limit of 11) Classes are Mondays at 9:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
The instructors for the classes are well qualified and ready to assist participants in getting more fit.
Michelle Moody’s qualifications include AFAA Certified in group fitness and personal training; Spin (Indoor Cycling) Certified; Certified in Standard First Aid by the American Red Cross; and Zumba instructor. She became interested in fitness as a teenager and became certified in her twenties. She has taught different types of classes ranging from step aerobics, kickboxing, strength classes, and Zumba. Her next goal was to become certified in Personal Training. She loves working one-on-one with clients to help them achieve their fitness goals. Her latest certification has been in Spinning, and she has been teaching classes for a little over three year now.
Miriam Hayes is a certified group fitness instructor through AFAA. She also holds certifications in spinning and Kettlebell ampd. Miriam has a passion for teaching all kinds of fitness classes. She currently teaches Rhythm Ride and Total Body Jam in the spinning facility at the Dillon Wellness Center. Miriam also teaches a variety of aerobic-style classes including Retro Recess and 20/20/20. Miriam also teaches dance fitness at the Dillon Wellness Center. Dance fitness is a one hour class consisting of hip hop, salsa, cha-cha, line dancing, and many other dance styles. Participants will sweat away between 700-1000 calories during dance fitness, so come ready to have party on the dance floor and ready to move like never before! Miriam loves all her classes and each participant in them! So come and join us and become a part of the Amazing fitness family!
Donna Hill is certified in Group Fitness and instructs a Low Impact class three days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. This is a great class for the active aging and anyone wanting to participate in a low intensity aerobics class. She also does classes at the Council of Aging in Dillon.
For those who want to enjoy some outdoor time with their children can do so at the playground outside of the Wellness Center. It is free of charge.
The Wellness Center is also the perfect place to hold your next event as a variety of spaces are available.
The 2,320 sq. ft. multi-purpose room can be divided into two rooms or used as a large single room. The multi-purpose room has a catering kitchen which has a refrigerator and microwave. A 20’ x 30’ conference room is located near the entrance of the building and is also available for events. It has an attached restroom.
Users of both the multi-purpose room and the conference room have access to 50 tables, 150 folding chairs, a podium, and internet access connection, a cable television connection, a television, and wireless internet.
The gymnasium is also available to rent for large scale activities. The gymnasium has been used for private events such as wedding receptions, banquets, club and church events, corporate meetings, basketball tournaments, karate tournaments, etc. It has also been used for events such as the Holiday Goodness Arts and Crafts Fair, the Kiwanis Father-Daughter Dance, and various other events.
The Wellness Center has proved itself to be a valuable asset to the area. The center is open Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. It is closed on New Year’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
