Violet McInnis McColl

LITTLE ROCK – Violet McInnis McColl, 91, widow of Lila Stanton McColl, died peacefully at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, S.C. on September 3, 2016. Visitation will be at the family home at 4229 Glasdrum Drive, Little Rock, S.C., from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Monday night, September 5. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 6, at 5:00 PM at Carolina Presbyterian Church, 4446 Carolina Church Road, Little Rock, S.C. 29567 with burial in the church cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. The family will host a reception for everyone in the Carolina Fellowship Building after the services.

She was born April 4, 1925, the daughter of the late Winnie Walters McInnis and Edwin Lee McInnis, Sr. She graduated from the Dillon County schools and also Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs, N.C. After the end of WWII and her graduation, she married her husband and began the family which immediately grew by leaps and bounds and surrounded her with love the rest of her life.

She was a faithful and hard-working member of Carolina Presbyterian Church, Little Rock, S.C. , serving as Clerk of the Session ( the first woman to hold this position), life-long Sunday School teacher, President of the Women of the Church, and always a Vacation Bible School volunteer. She was a member of the Carolina Quilters and The Carolina Homemakers Club. She delighted in the many celebrations and gatherings that these organizations provided her community.

She taught first grade in Clio for a short time and then began her teaching career again after her children were grown by teaching at Leland Grove Indian School. When this school was consolidated into Dillon District Two, she moved with those children to South Elementary and taught there for several years.

She and Lila traveled the world with their friends, visiting Italy, Portugal, Hawaii, El Salvador, Nova Scotia, Mexico, and England and Scotland twice. She loved history, especially Scottish history, reading, gardening, and especially roses. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge and her plants with everyone. She was happiest when she was working and weeding her many gardens. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 68 years, her sister Delphine McInnis Wright, her brother Edwin Lee McInnis, and also her brother Miles Murdoc McInnis. She is survived by one daughter, Mary McColl McDaniel (Tommy), and three sons, Nicholas Tally McColl, James Lila McColl (Terry), John Walters McColl (Pam), and the following grandchildren: Tally McColl (Kelly), Matthew McColl (Amy), Kathleen McDaniel, Emily Stonerock (Chuck), Melissa Perritt (David), Jessica Renwick (Jonathan), and Mason McColl. 
She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Dawson and Hayden Perritt, Landry and Garret Collins, Eli McColl, Violet (her dear namesake) and Emmeline Renwick, Stanton and Meredith Stonerock, and Parker McColl. She is also survived by her brother Samuel P. McInnis of the Methodist Manor, Florence, S.C., her sister Catherine Newton Hoffman (Kurt) of Kingston, N.Y., her close friend and sister-in-law Grace McColl Gibson, Clio, S. C., and numerous nieces and nephews.
