Swindler Named ‘Parents as Teachers’ Home Visitor

Dillon County First Steps is proud to announce that Ms. Jessica Swindler will be the new ‘Parents as Teachers’ Home Visitor effective August 1.
Swindler is a resident of Lumberton, NC but was born, reared, and worked in Dillon County.
Swindler graduated from Clinton College in Rock Hill  in May 2016, where she received an Associate of Arts in Early Childhood Education. Swindler has field experience in early childhood by previously working at Oakdale Elementary School, Rock Hill,  and Kingdom Kids, Dillon. She has had numerous experiences as the Church Youth Leader/Mentor, Youth Volunteer and a School Lunch Buddy Program.
Ms. Jessica Swindler said, “My passion for youth and young adolescents is one that is proven through constant efforts to impact the life of all those I come in contact with. It is my desire and duty to leave my mark in this world as a world changer. My desire to do this does not come merely by making millions of dollars or being on the cover of a fashion magazine; however, I do plan to change the world by planting seeds into our youth that leads to them being successful within the four walls of the room and in everyday life.”
Job duties and responsibilities of a Parents as Teachers Home Visitor are as following:
—Home Visitor will make visits to assigned (20) families according to the Parents as Teachers program model.
—The home visits will require the Parent Educator to model the parent appropriate ways to verbally interact with his/her child to create an atmosphere in which the parent feels comfortable in participating to respect the privacy of all families visited and to maintain a non-judgmental attitude toward program families.
—Home Visitor will write an anecdotal report for each home visit, organize paperwork and submit data, reports and timesheets on deadline.
—Home Visitor will work independently and responsibly
—Home Visitor will exercise appropriate concern for safety of self and others in personal conduct and will follow appropriate legal, ethical and agency standards.
—Coordinate and implement monthly parent meetings based on Parents as Teachers curriculum.
—Comply with state and national curriculum standards.
—Attend Board Meetings as directed by Executive Director.
—Attend childcare training sessions as directed by Executive Director.
—Will assist in any Dillon County First Steps activities as directed by Executive Director.
