Dillon Native Named Mellichamp Elementary School Teacher Of The Year

Mellichamp Elementary School located in Orangeburg, South Carolina is extremely proud to announce that Jessica McCormick has been named the 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year.  Jessica has only been teaching for three short year but in those years she has truly seemed to have mastered the art of teaching.

“The impact a teacher has on a student is remarkable and can inspire children to achieve greatness,” she states.  Jessica exemplifies the best qualities a teacher can possess.  She is committed to providing a high quality, excellent instructional program daily.  She immerses students in a rich learning environment.  Jessica remarks, “Every child deserves a champion –an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” Not only has Jessica been a “champion” for students, but she has been a “champion” staff member as well. Among being named teacher of the year she was also awarded Mellichamp Elementary School Literacy Leader of the year as well as the Culture, Literacy, and Numeracy Award.
Jessica is no stranger to the education world.  She states, “Growing up with educators as parents really influenced me.  Seeing the way they impacted so many lives was impeccable.”
Ms.  McCormick was born and reared in Dillon. She is the proud daughter of Jessie and Nancy McCormick and has 2 beautiful sisters, Azalee and Rosie.  She is a 2008 graduate of Dillon High School where she was a member of the Marching Wildcats Band directed by Mr. Adrian Wright and JROTC. Ms. McCormick continued her education at South Carolina State University where she majored in Elementary Education.  While matriculating at South Carolina State University, she was honored to be a clarinetist of the world renowned Marching 101 band. She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity..
