Guardian ad Litem Profile: Alice Casey

Alice Casey says the best thing that has happened since she began volunteering as a guardian “is seeing the children reunited with their parents.”

Casey, who retired from the Dillon School District after 34 years, joined the Cass Elias McCarter Guardian ad Litem program in 2010.  During her time as a volunteer, she has advocated for more than 20 children.  “I have been most amazed at how great the children are that I get to work with.  It amazes me that despite their circumstances they are well behaved, great children,” said Casey.
When recalling a case that left a strong impression on her, Casey remarked, “I have been most impressed with a family of three siblings, whose parental rights were terminated.  I could begin to imagine how I would feel and possibly act if I had been in similar circumstances.  These children in my opinion were great.”
Volunteers know how wonderful the children are that they have an opportunity to work with and get to know. Casey tells others to “come and join what could be one of their most rewarding opportunities.  You could have a positive impact on the life of a child.”
