Latta School Board Meets

The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Latta High School Library.  In accordance with S.C Code of Laws, 1985, Section 30-4-80-(e), The Dillon Herald was notified of the time, date, place and agenda of this meeting.  The agenda is also posted in the District Office and on the district website.
Trustees present were Kyle Berry, Ray George, Vanessa Harrison, Stuart Poston, Eleanor Powers, and JoAnn Williamson.  Linda James was absent.
Dr. Kirby welcomed all present and opened with prayer.
There being no corrections or additions to the April 12, 2016 minutes, Chair Berry ruled that they stand approved.  Stuart Poston made a motion to amend the current agenda to add a new contract.  Vanessa Harrison seconded the motion.  Vote was unanimous.

OLD BUSINESS
The Board Members agreed to conduct the Board Retreat at the June 14, 2016 Board meeting.

DEPARTMENTAL
BUSINESS
Donna Taylor presented the status report for March 2016 on the General Fund budget.
A motion was made by Vanessa Harrison and seconded by Eleanor Powers to accept as first reading the 2016-2017 school year general operations budget as presented by Donna Taylor.  Vote was unanimous.
A motion for approval to write the 2016-2017 Federal Projects for the District was made by Ray George and seconded by Vanessa Harrison.  Vote was unanimous.
Leigh Sloan updated the Board on the new commons area for students.
Nan Carmichael and Ana Tindall presented information about high school graduates and preparing for college.
Chris German and Asia Harrison updated Board Members on Career Programming and the Internship Program at Latta High School.
Laura Rowell and Kody Anderson presented information about STEM growth at Latta High School.
Christy Berry and Andre Mace updated the Board on the International Baccalaureate Program.
Tamia German, Christian Holloman and Angel Morrison shared their experiences from the recent trip to China organized by the Latta High School International Baccalaureate program.
An athletic update for the 2015-2016 school year was given by Aaron Miles.
Larry Legette gave an update on the school facilities.
The 2016 major summer projects were outlined by Dr. Kirby.
An update of the Ellis Performing Arts Center was given by Eleanor Powers.
Dr. Kirby updated the Board on the recognition of the 2015 Latta Varsity Baseball team and the 2015 Latta Varsity Softball team at the State House of Representatives.

NEW BUSINESS:
Stuart Poston made a motion to approve a parent’s waiver request of out of district tuition for second semester 2015-2016.  JoAnn Williamson seconded the request.  Vote was unanimous.
