Sheriff’s Office Cautions About IRS Scam Calls

The Dillon County Sheriff’s Office has received a number of complaints about citizens receiving calls from the Internal Revenue Service, according to Captain Cliff Arnette.
The automated call states that “this is the IRS-Internal Revenue Service, and a lawsuit is going to be filed against you and will give a number for you to call.” The numbers have been different.
If you receive such a call, it is without question a scam and you should not call or give any information or money.
While no one is immune from this type of scam, the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office encourages you to not fall victim to this scam. If you receive a call of this nature please contact the Sheriff’s Office, and we will help you verify any information that you have been told.
The Internal Revenue Service will not notify you by calling if there is a problem with your taxes.
This type of crime is very difficult to determine who is responsible because most scams originate in foreign countries.
