The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Latta Middle School Library. In accordance with S.C. Code of Laws, 1985, Section 30-4-80-(e), The Dillon Herald was notified of the time, date, place and agenda of this meeting. The agenda is also posted in the District Office and on the district website.
Trustees present were Ray George, Vanessa Harrison, Stuart Poston, Eleanor Powers, ad JoAnn Williamson. Kyle Berry and Linda James were absent.
Dr. Kirby welcomed all present and opened with prayer.
New Trustee, Stuart Poston, was introduced and sworn into office by Dr. Kirby.
New Trustee, Ray George, was introduced and sworn into office by Dr. Kirby.
Dr. Kirby conducted the election of Board Officers. A motion was made by Eleanor Powers and seconded by Vanessa Harrison to elect Kyle Berry as Chair, Eleanor Powers as Vice Chair and Linda James as Secretary. Vote was unanimous.
There being no corrections or additions to the March 8, 2016 minutes, Vice Chair Powers ruled that they stand approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Dr. Kirby postponed discussion of the Board Retreat until all Board Trustees are present.
DEPARTMENTAL
BUSINESS
Donna Taylor presented the status report for February 2016 on the General Fund budget.
Debra Morris gave an update of the Latta Middle School STEM Program and the implementation of Project Based Learning grade level projects. She also updated Board Members on the STEM plans for the 2016-2017 school year.
Middle School students presented and displayed their playground projects.
George Liebenrood updated the Board on the accreditation status for school year 2015-2016.
An update of the 2015-2016 District Strategic Plan was given by George Liebenrood.
A motion to approve the School Renewal Plan and the District Reading Plan was made by Ray George and seconded by Stuart Poston. Vote was unanimous.
Robert McIntyre presented the 135th Day Student Attendance Report.
Larry Legette gave an update on school facilities.
Dr. Kirby updated the Board on the end of year schedule.
Dr. Kirby updated the Board on the Latta High School International Baccalaureate trip to China.
Eleanor Powers gave an update on the Latta Elementary School construction mediation.
Dr. Kirby updated the Board on plans for a sports shooting club for the 2016-2017 school year.
NEW BUSINESS
Upon Dr. Kirby’s recommendation, a motion to approve the hiring of Wade Brown, Jessica Hames, Taylor Martin, Marjorie Collins, Brittani Owens, Amanda Graham and Carol MacNeil was made by Vanessa Harrison and seconded by Stuart Poston. Vote was unanimous.
