Betty Jean Player Aston

Betty Jean Player Aston, 88, died, April 25, 2016 at Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina in Florence, SC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a/.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Latta Southern Methodist Church with interment in Magnolia Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.. Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta, SC.
Mrs. Aston was born in Mayesville, SC on September 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Cleland Blain and Elizabeth Coskrey Player.  She graduated from Columbia College and received a Master’s in Library Science from the University of South Carolina.  Betty Jean was a member of the Dogwood Garden Club, Etudier Club, Dillon County Historical Society, Latta Library Renovation Committee, and Delta Kappa Gamma.  Mrs. Aston also volunteered for the Dillon County Guardian ad Litem and was recognized as Latta Citizen of the Year in 2005.   She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Elliott, SC and attended Latta Southern Methodist Church. She retired as a Librarian for Dillon High School and was the widow of James Andrew Aston.      
She is survived by her sons, James “Jim” Andrew Aston, Jr. (Carol) of Greenville, SC and William H. “Bill” Aston (Lisa) of Latta, SC; daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Aston of Fremont, CA; grandchildren, Ashely Weiner (Brian), Ginger Spanbauer (Bob), James Andrew Aston, III, Player Aston; and great grandchildren, Ethan and Allison Weiner. Betty Jean was predeceased by her brother, Blain Player and sister, Ernestine Player.
