Latta School Board Meets

The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the Latta Elementary School Library. In accordance with S.C. Code of Laws, 1985, Section 30-4-80-(e), The Dillon Herald was notified of the time, date, place, and agenda of this meeting. The agenda is also posted in the District Office and on the district website.
Trustees present were Kyle Berry, Vanessa Harrison, Eleanor Powers, and JoAnn Williamson. Linda James was absent.
Dr. Kirby welcomed all present and opened with prayer.
Kyle Berry was named temporary Board Chair.
There being no corrections or additions to the February 9, 2016 minutes, Chair Berry ruled that they stand approved.

DEPARTMENTAL
BUSINESS
Donna Taylor presented the status report for January 2016 on the General Fund budget.

Dollie Morrell updated Board Members on the growth plan for Montessori, the first full year of complete implementation of the Student Study Team, and PBL-STEM activities at Latta Elementary School.

Maclean Bracey updated the Board on the required Montessori training tailored for teacher assistants.

Vicki Kirby updated the Board and showed a presentation of the importance of computer science in education.
*
Larry Legette gave an update on school facilities.
*
An update of the Ellis Performing Arts Center was given by Eleanor Powers.

Dr. Kirby gave an update on the 9th Annual Happy Feet Project funded by the Latta School District, the Latta Schools Educational Foundation, the Latta High School Interact Club, students and staff at each of the Latta Schools, the Latta Rotary Club and Goody’s in Dillon.

An update of the Latta Elementary School Nature Trail was given by Amanda Morrell.

NEW BUSINESS:
Upon the recommendation of the administration, a motion to approve the professional and paraprofessional contracts as presented for the 2016-2017 school year and the hiring of Elaine White was made by Eleanor Powers and seconded by JoAnn Williamson. Vote was unanimous.
