The Dillon varsity boys basketball team defeated the Lake Marion Gators in a fast-paced game 87 to 62 on Wednesday, February 17, in Dillon to advance in 8 – 2A playoffs.
The ’Cats Ja’Quan Knowlin scored 23 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in the win. Although the tip-off was controlled by Dillon the Gators scored the first point of the game when #12 Camryn Johnson sank 1 of 2 free throws for the only lead of the game.
Dillon’s Keenan Norman scored on Dillon’s first two offensive plays to take the lead before #32 Rah James Robinson of the Gators sank 1 for 2 points.
Dillon’s Keenan Norman quickly sank another basket for 2 to increase Dillon’s lead.
The ’Cats Javier Brookins’ shot was off but rebounded by RaHeem McClam who laid the basketball in for 2 points.  Keenan Norman sank another 2-pointer as another Dillon player sank another basket that was answered by Lake Marion on the other end.
The Wildcats’ Keenan Norman was called on to take technical shots where he sank one.
Knowlin took a shot and got a tip in to score 2 more for the ’Cats.  Lake Marion answered on the other end to bring Lake Marion within 8 points.  Dillon led 15 to 7.
Knowlin was fouled and sank 2 free throws.  The Gators #12 Camryn Johnson was fouled while shooting and made 1 of his 2 free throws.
On the next play Knowlin was again fouled but unable to connect on either of his free throws.
The ’Cats Corrian Wright pulled down an offensive rebound and connected for 2 points.         
The Gators #32 Rah James Robinson laid in one for 2 points.
On the Wildcats next trip down the court Knowlin was again fouled but unable to sink either free throw.
Lake Marion’s #32 Rah James Robinson dunked one to the pleasure of the visiting fans.
Dillon led 19 to 12 after the first quarter.
The Gators opened the second quarter with a missed shot from #32 Rah James Robinson.  The Wildcats hustled down court where RaHeem McClam hit 1 for 2 points.  On the other end #11 sank 1 for 2.
Dillon’s Ja’Quan Knowlin slammed one thru to the delight of the Dillon crowd.
Lake Marion’s #11 Roy Jones’ shot was rebounded by #1 Malik Drayton, who sank a basket for 2 points.
After a couple of missed shots from both teams, Knowlin again laid in 1 for 2 and was fouled.  He completed the 3-point play to give Dillon a 26 to 16 lead over Lake Marion.
The teams traveled back and forth across the court at a fast pace taking shot after shot before the Gators #12 Camryn Johnson sank a long 1 for 3.
Knowlin is again fouled and makes 1 of 2 free throws.
The ’Cats Javier Brookins is fouled while shooting and made both free throws to give the ’Cats an 11-point lead.
#24 Steven Drayton for Lake Marion connects on 1 for 2, and Dillon’s #43 Ja’Quan Knowlin made a great shot to hit 1 for 2.
Keenan Norman and Corrian Wright of Dillon each added a basket to give Dillon a 13-point lead 36 to 23 with 2:50 remaining in the second quarter.
#23 Keyshawn Aiken for the Gators sank 2 free throws while Darius Bethea of Dillon hit on 1 of 2 free throws.
The ’Cats Keenan Norman was fouled.  He hit 1 of his 2 free throws.  Wildcat Darius Bethea laid in 1 to put Dillon up by 16 points, 41 to 25.
#1 Malik Drayton for the Gators hit 1 of 2 free throws.  Corrian Wright for the ’Cats hit on 1 of his 2 free throws to make the score Dillon 42 and Lake Marion 26 with 1:20 remaining in the second quarter.
Another foul brought #15 D’Ontre Gilliard for the Gators to the charity line where he connected on 1 of his 2 free throws.
Javier Brookins of Dillon ended the half by connecting on 2 free throws to give Dillon a 44 to 28 lead.
After Dillon’s Keenan Norman’s 3-point attempt went in and out #12 Camryn Johnson for Lake Marion hit 1 for 2.        
Khary White added a 2-point basket.  On the next offensive play Keenan Norman goes the entire court to hit 1 for 2 for the ’Cats.        
#15 RaKeem Fletcher for Dillon makes 2 free throws and followed up a couple of plays later with a two 2-point baskets to give Dillon a 56 go 30 lead with 4:07 remaining in the third quarter.
The Gators #23 Keyshawn Aiken sank another basket for 2 points.
Darius Bethea connected on 1 of 2 free throws before returning to the offensive end where he was fouled as he sank a basket for 2 points and completed the 3-point play and was fouled again but he was only able to hit 1 of his 2 free throws that time.       
On the next defensive play Dillon’s Knowlin blocked a shot but Lake Marion’s #23 Keyshawn Aiken grabbed the ball and sank 1 for 2 points.
Dillon’s Keenan Norman hit a long 1 for 3, and #15 D’Ontre Gilliard for Lake Marion did the same on the other end of the court.
The ’Cats Darius Bethea was fouled as he shot; he sank both of his free throws.
On the other end #11 Roy Walker sank a shot for 2 points.
Dillon’s Ja’Quan Knowlin made a spectacular reverse layout for 2 points followed by #15 Dillon’s Rakeem Fletcher who hit a basket for 2.
#23 Keyshawn Aiken for Lake Marion hit the final basket of the third quarter as Dillon led 69 to 41.        
Dillon’s Knowlin began the fourth quarter with a 2-point conversion.        
#24 Steven Drayton for the Gators quickly sank 2 baskets in 2 possessions.        
Javier Brookins for Dillon calmed the excited fans from Lake Marion when he sank 1 for 2.        
Knowlin blocked #1 Malik Drayton for the Gators’ shot and Dillon quickly went the other way and knocked 1 down for 2 points.  However, #1 Malik Drayton for Lake Marion hit 1 for 3.
Dillon’s Knowlin and McClam each connected 1 of 2 free throws after being fouled while shooting.
Knowlin is again fouled and hit 1 of 2 free throws.  On the next offensive play he sank another basket for 2 points.
Keenan Norman added a 2-point basket for the ’Cats.
#24 Damari Ladson for Dillon got in on the scoring for the ’Cats with a 2-point conversion as the game began to wind down.
The Gators #13 laid 1 in for 2 while on the other end #15 Rakeem Fletcher for Dillon sank 1 of 2 free throws after being fouled.
#15 D’Ontre Gilliard for the Gators sank a 3-pointer and #14 Jermain Haynes for the Gators also hit 1 for 2 with 1:03 remaining in the game with Dillon leading 85 to 57.
Corrian Wright for Dillon connected on 1 of 2 free throws before #15 D’Ontre Gilliard for Lake Marion hit a 3-pointer.
The Gators kept fighting throughout the game.
#24 Damari Ladson for Dillon hit 1 of 2 of a technical  for the last score of the game.  
The ’Cats Norman Keenan scored 21 points, grabbed one offensive and 3 defensive rebounds, had 2 steals, and 4 assists in the win.
Javier Brookins added 10 points, brought down 8 offensive and 8 defensive rebounds, and 3 steals for the Wildcats.       
Darius Bethea added 10 points to the total for the Wildcats while grabbing 6 steals, 2 deflections, and 1 assist.        
RaKeem Fletcher had 7 points, 1 rebound, 3 steals, and 2 assists in the victory for the Wildcats.
RaHeem McClam contributed 4 points, 4 offensive rebounds, 7 defensive rebounds, and had 1 blocked shot for the ’Cats.
Corrian Wright had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists for his contribution in the win.
Delquarius Spears added 3 points for the ’Cats, and Khary White added 2.
Darius Boatwright pulled down 1 offensive rebound for the ’Cats.
Lake Marion was led in scoring by D’Ontre Gilliard with 11 points, Keyshawn Aiken and Steven Drayton each with 10 points while Rah James Robinson added 8, Malik Drayton and Emmanuel Walker each had 6 points.  Camryn Johnson had 5, Emmanuel Walker and Jermain Haynes each had 2.
Dillon is now 15 and 8 and hosted Bishop England on Saturday in Dillon at 7:00 p.m. as the playoffs continued.
