Latta School Board Meets

NOTE: Minutes submitted are unofficial until approved at the next month’s regular monthly meeting

The Latta School Board of Trustees met for the regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. in the District Administrative Conference Room. In accordance with S.C. Code of Laws, 1985, Section 30-4-80-(e). The Dillon Herald was notified of the time, date, place and agenda of this meeting. The agenda is also posted in the District Office and on the district website. Trustees present were Kyle Berry, Vanessa Harrison, Linda James, Betty Jo Johnson, Eleanor Powers, and JoAnn Williamson.
Betty Jo Johnson welcomed all present and Dr. Kirby opened with prayer.
New Trustee, JoAnn Williamson, was introduced and sworn into office by Clair Johnson.
Betty Jo Johnson presented a SCSBA service award for ten years of service on the Latta School Board to Kyle Berry.
Betty Jo Johnson presented a SCSBA service award for twenty years of service on the Latta School Board to former trustee Edward Bethea.
Vicki Kirby introduced the first year teacher induction class to the Board. Each teacher shared their education background and their enjoyment of teaching in the Latta School District. Induction class participants are as follows: Chandler Bundy, Ashley Jones, Anna Love, and Erin Shaul.
There being no corrections or additions to the November 10, 2015 minutes, Clair Johnson ruled that they stand approved.

OLD BUSINESS
Dr. Kirby gave an update on the old Latta Elementary School building and Care South Carolina.

DEPARTMENT BUSINESS
Donna Taylor presented the status report for October 2015 and November 2015 on the General Fund budget. (Report attached becoming part of the minutes.)
The National School Board Association report on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was given by George Liebenrood. (Attachment becoming part of the minutes.)
George Liebenrood updated the Board on the test dates for SC READY for grades 3-8. (Attachment becoming part of the minutes.)
A motion to approve the Latta Schools Athletic Hall of Fame was made by Kyle Berry and seconded by Eleanor Powers. Vote was unanimous. (Attachment becoming part of the minutes.)
Aaron Miles updated the Board on the Latta Athletics Program for the 2015-2016 school year. (Report attached becoming part of the minutes.)
Larry Legette gave an update on the school facilities.
Dr. Kirby announced to the Board that the Latta School Board of Trustees FMU Education Scholarship Award was awarded to Sarah Lane.
Dr. Kirby updated the Board on the $5000 award granted to Latta Schools by the SCSBA Insurance Trust Grant.
Dr. Kirby presented the 2015-2016 school health report. Areas of services provided to students and staff were highlighted. (Report attached becoming part of the minutes.)
Betty Jo Johnson gave an update on the 2015 South Carolina Boards Legislative Advocacy Conference that she attended on December 4-6, 2015. (Attachments becoming part of the minutes.)

NEW BUSINESS:
Dr. Kirby gave each Board Member a State of South Carolina State Ethics Commission Form to be completed online by March 30, 2016.
Dr. Kirby stated that the Superintendent’s Evaluation Form will be sent to each Board Member for completion.
Eleanor Powers made a motion to approve the Latta High School International Baccalaureate trip to China. JoAnn Williamson seconded the motion. Vote was unanimous.

There being no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Kyle Berry and seconded by Linda James. Vote was unanimously.
