City Arbor Day Celebration Held (with photo gallery)

Arbor Day was recently held in Dillon on December 4th at the Dillon Wellness Center presented by the Dillon Garden Club and the City of Dillon.
The Dillon Garden Club members include Jan Austin, Cathy Baxley, Jon Bozard, Alpha Hartley, Susan Kannaday, Pat Laird, Carolyn Lupo, Darlene MacDonnell, Margaret Ann Newton, Susan Newton, Bonnie Rogers, Linda Rogers, and Betty Stout.
Pat Laird gave the welcome followed by an invocation by Rev. Ray Smith of Lake View United Methodist Church.
Mayor Todd Davis spoke about the importance of Arbor Day and trees. He also noted how much the garden clubs do for the community.
This year, the Dillon Garden Club presented a Wildfire Tupelo gum tree which was planted at the Wellness Center prior to the ceremony. This was planted by the City of Dillon Street Department, which consists of Superintendent Burt Rogers, Gerald Long, Bryan Bethea, Robert German, Tim Drake, Rick White, Jim Funk, James Ford, James Jacobs, and Prince McDonald. Earl Dutton is chairman of the City of Dillon Tree committee.
Lois Edwards of Pee Dee Region Urban Forestry presented the city with their 12th flag for being a Tree City USA. She also made remarks about the importance of trees and their value to our lives.
After Edwards’ comments, Rev. Smith gave the invocation.
Refreshments were enjoyed inside the Wellness Center following the ceremony.
