Dillon Middle School Holds Breast Cancer Walk

October was National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the month of October, Dillon Middle School participated in their First Annual “Walk against Cancer Rally.”

The event took place Thursday, October 29, 2015 on the DMS track during Electives. Dr. Polly Elkins kicked off the event as the guest speaker. She shared her fight against cancer story with the students. Several students, teachers, faculty, staff, and community members participated in the event, including the Dillon High School band. The band really energized all participants, motivating them to take that extra step around the track.

Students at DMS also participated in a “Coins for Cancer” Service Learning Project. The students raised approximately $1,000 for this project in one week. This money was donated to the American Cancer Society.

Mike McRae, Jr. would like to thank Mrs. Crawford, Mrs. Moore, and everyone who played a significant role in making Dillon Middle School’s cancer awareness events a success. This was a total team effort. The students, faculty, staff, community members, and music departments really stepped up to join the fight against cancer.
