DAR Honors Vietnam Veterans

At the November meeting of the Rebecca Pickens Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, November 10, 2015, the eve of Veterans Day, Vietnam Veterans were honored.
The meeting was held at the Dillon Wellness Center with patriotic colors used for decorating, even the red and white flowers in blue water.
After refreshments, presiding officer Regent Chris Harris called the meeting to order, welcomed the veterans and introduced the speaker, Col. Joseph Griffin USA (ret.). Col. Griffin held those in attendance spell bound with his very interesting talk about experiences had had in his long military service. He, like all others, is a credit to our nation and so worthy of any praise we can give them.
At the conclusion of his presentation each veteran present was recognized by Vice Regent Lee Ann Calhoun who presented each a small token of appreciation, a tie tac especially made for the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
The veteran attendees were given an opportunity to leave or remain for the regular meeting of the organization. Members present for the occasion included besides Regent Harris, Lynne Cox from Newbern, NC, Rena Lu Alford, Rosemary Bethea, Cathy Baxley, Nancy Brigman, Jane Calhoun, Lee Ann Calhoun, Jewel Carmichael, Linda Dutton, Polly McIntyre, Julia McLaurin, Janie McNeil, Joan Rocha, Julie Sawyer, Susan Shine, Fay Sloan, and Patricia Townsend. Lee Ann Calhoun, Jewell Carmichael, and Julia McLaurin served as hostesses with the other members bringing additional items.
