Nancy Della McLaurin

     Nancy Della McLaurin, 91, died November 13, 2015, at Laurel Crest Retirement Home in West Columbia, S.C.

     Born February 5, 1924, in Dillon, S.C., she was a 1945 graduate of Coker College.  She went on to earn a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.  She was for many years professor of English and chair of the Department of Languages and Literature at Pfeiffer College (now University) in Misenheimer, N.C., where upon her retirement she was named an emerita professor.

     Dr. McLaurin is survived by a longtime friend, Elizabeth Shaffer of West Columbia; a brother, Grover Gordon McLaurin, Jr., of Dillon; a sister, Glennie Fowler of Columbia; thirteen nieces and nephews; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Grover Gordon McLaurin and Inez Ragsdale McLaurin, and by two sisters, Marianne Hubbard and Louise Stewart.

     A graveside service will be held Monday, November 16, at 1 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Dillon.  

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the music program at Main Street United Methodist Church in Dillon.
