Two Latta High School Players Sign To Play College Baseball

Two Latta players signed to play college baseball on Thursday. The signings took place in the Ellis Performing Arts Center.
Colby Lee, the son of R.C. and Carolyn Lee, was the first to sign. He signed with the University of South Carolina.
Lee said he feels really at home at USC. “I love the atmosphere and the coaches,” Lee commented. He said baseball has been his best sport. Lee said his best pitch is the slider. He will be taking his leadership skills to USC, where he will major in physical therapy. Lee’s mother said, “We are extremely proud of Colby. He has been playing baseball since he was four years old. It’s amazing to watch him live out his dream.”

Jackson Williams, the son of Teddy Cale and Beth Williams, signed on Thursday with Spartanburg Methodist University. He said he feels Spartanburg Methodist is a good fit because the coaches are what he needs to take him to the next level. He will be a catcher. Williams has been All-State and All-Region and won the Rookie and MVP awards. He will be majoring in business. Williams said, “I enjoyed playing baseball at Latta and winning the state baseball title.
Williams parents said, “We are extremely proud. Jackson has wanted to play college ball since he was eight years old. His work ethic is his best possession, and we’re very proud of him. He always gives credit to someone else, especially God, his mother, his father, etc., or anyone who’s helping him. He would get up at 6:00 a.m. to practice and hit the batting cage.”
Coach Don Cribb said he is very proud of both players for their personal accomplishments and for their reflection of their baseball skills for themselves, the baseball program, the school, and the community.”
