Warrior Defense Secures 32-21 Region Win Over Titans

The Dillon Christian School Warriors hosted the Titans of Trinity/Byrnes School of Darlington Friday night at Warrior Field in a region 2-1A showdown with the Warriors coming away with a 32-21 win thanks to the efforts of their defense.
The Titans put up 453 yards of offense holding the Warriors to 292 yards.
The Warriors intercepted the Titans quarterback four times returning two of them for touchdowns which resulted in the eleven point victory margin for the Warriors.
The win puts the Warriors at 6-2 overall and 3-1 in region play. The loss gives the Titans a 6-1 record and 2-1 in region play. TeShaun Lane got the Warriors on the scoreboard first with a 71 yard touchdown run with 7:10 left in the first quarter. Jackson Wolfe added the point after kick to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead.
Titans quarterback, Cameron Pease picked up a touchdown on a 13 yard keeper play with 14 seconds left in the first quarter. Eddie Buckhouse evened the score at 7-7 with his pint after kick with the first quarter ending with this score.
On the Titans first possession of the second quarter, Pease hit Javontae Robinson with a 75 yard touchdown pass. Buckhouse’s point after kick put the Titans up 14-7 with 10:02 left in the second quarter.
Warrior quarterback Michael Minges got the Warriors back in the game with a 12 yard touchdown pass to Tyreck Toomer with 4:41 left in the second quarter. Wolfe’s point after kick knotted the score at 14-14. On the Titans next drive, TeShaun Lane picked off a pass from Pease and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown. The point after kick was blocked holding the Warrior lead to 20-14 with 2:47 left in the first half with the half ending with this score.
On the Titans first possession of the third quarter they made it inside the Warrior end of the field but the drive was halted with Garrett Collins intercepting a pass on the 20 yard line and returning it 80 yards for the touchdown. The kick failed leaving the Warriors up 26-14 with 10:49 left in the third quarter.
The Warriors had two chances to put the game away in the third quarter. They were stopped with first and goal on the four yard line after one failed run, two pass attempts and a quarterback sack to turn the ball over to the Titans.
The Warriors got the ball back and made it to the Titans 12 yard line where the Titans read the Warriors and had three defenders on the intended receiver and came away with the interception to halt the drive.
The third quarter ended with the Warriors holding the 26-14 lead.
Following the interception the Titans kept the ball and put together a long drive that went into the fourth quarter and ended with Pease hitting Kelvin Jackson with a nine yard touchdown pass. Buckhouse’s point after kick cut the Warrior lead to 26-21 with 9:50 left in the fourth quarter.
The Titans went for the onside kick and were successful recovering the ball near midfield. The Warrior defense recovered a fumble and put together a clock running drive that ended with Kelvin Stackhouse securing the Warrior victory with a 21 yard touchdown run.
The kicked failed holding the Warrior lead at 32-21 with 2:45 left in the game.
The Warriors halted the Titans next drive with the Warriors running the clock out on offense. Coach Christian Wolfe gave praise to his team’s efforts. We got behind and came back with our defense giving a great effort against one very strong offensive team, added Wolfe. Wolfe stated he was very proud of his team and the coaches. Defensive coordinator, Phillip Price stated that the Warriors got a great effort from all the defensive players. We had to use a lot of substitutes against the Titans due to their type of offense, stated Price.
Price added that there was several players on the defense that are outstanding athletes but pointed out that Anthony “Red” Williams might be the best cornerback in the area and could play on any team in the area.
Price stated that Red does not get the attention on paper that he deserves due to the fact that the opposing teams will seldom pass or run into his coverage area out of respect to him.
On offense for the Warriors, TeShaun Lane had 132 yards rushing on 10 carries with a touchdown and caught a pass for 16 yards, Michael Minges was 7 of 14 passing for 108 yards and a touchdown and had 30 yards rushing on 6 carries, Kelvin Stackhouse had 44 yards on 6 carries with a touchdown, Red Williams caught 3 passes for 41 yards, Tyreck Toomer caught three passes for 38 yards and Jackson Wolfe caught a pass for 13 yards and was 2 of 5 in extra-point kicks.
On defense, Michael Minges had eight tackles, four assists and an interception, Kelvin Stackhouse had eight tackles, three assists, Red Williams had six tackles, six assists with a batted down pass, Ethan Shackelford had six tackles, five assists with a fumble recovery, TeShaun Lane had six tackles, two assists with a interception returned 41 yards for a touchdown, David Williams had five tackles, two assists, Jake Boykin had four tackles, three assists with two quarterback sacks and a batted down pass, Garrett Collins had three tackles, four assists with a yard touchdown return on an interception, Connor Hamilton had two tackles and an assist, Tyreck Toomer had two tackles, two assists, Noel Miller had two tackles, Samuel Coleman added a tackle with two assists and Hunter Tyner added two tackle assists. The Warriors will be at home Friday night to host Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach with game time set for 7:30.
