Ann Page Griffin

Ann Page Griffin, 78, passed away September 28, 2015, at her home in Columbia, S.C.  She was born on January 4, 1937, and raised in Lake View, SC.  Ann was the daughter of Burney Lee Page and Julia Gibson Page.  She graduated from Lake View High School and attended Meredith College where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Minor in Education.
Ann married Edward V Griffin, Jr., June 28, 1958, and lived in Rocky Mount, N.C. for several years before returning to Lake View where her husband joined the family Farm Supply business.
Ann began her career with the Dillon County Department of Social Services in 1964, but soon returned to the home to raise her three children. During that time she also served as a substitute teacher and assisted in the family businesses at the Lake View Farm Supply and Dillon Farm Center where she became president of the latter.
Ann returned to the Dillon County Department of Social Services in 1975 and later was appointed director of the agency. Under her 16 year leadership and with a wonderful, dedicated staff, the agency received many statewide awards in helping children and adults in need of financial and health services.
Ann was deeply committed to community service and volunteered her time to many organizations: St. Eugene Community Hospital Advisory Board Member and Vice-Chairman, Haven Hospice Advisory Board, Dillon County FEMA Board, Pee Dee DHEC Home Health Advisory Board, Dillon County Emergency Shelter Board, United Way Board, American Red Cross Board, Latta Rotary Club, Dillon County Economic Development Board, Pee Dee Chapter of the SC State Employees Assn Board Member, Pee Dee Adoption Center Board member, Dillon County Inter-Agency Council, Lake View Zoning Commission, Pee Dee Regional Health Services Board, Pee Dee Rose Society, and others. In 1990, Ann was selected as Career Woman of the Year by the Dillon Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Ann was a life-long member of First Baptist Church in Lake View, where she helped establish the day care and served as its initial director.
Ann relocated to Columbia in 2003 to be closer to her family. In Columbia, she gained many new, dear friends and especially enjoyed her Lunch Bunch and the Monday afternoon bridge club.  
Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Edward V. Griffin Jr of Nashville, NC, and brother, Burney Lee Page Jr. of Lake View, SC.  She is survived by sons Hunter Lee Griffin (Cathy) of Columbia, S.C. and Edward V Griffin, III (Katie) of Greenville, S.C., a daughter, Page Smith of Columbia, S.C., and a sister, Nancy Dunlap (Jack).  She is also survived by seven wonderful grandchildren, Rachel Griffin, Hunter Griffin Jr, Reid Griffin, Griffin Smith, Ann Smith, Noel M. Griffin, and Edward V. Griffin, IV.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Lake View. A visitation will be held at the church at 12:30, prior to the service. Cooke Funeral Home in Lake View is serving the family. A separate visitation will be held in Columbia, S.C., at the Heritage, 1829 Senate Street, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 1, 2015.
