Cook Named Pee Dee Region School Resource Officer Of The Year

Gary Cook, the School Resource Officer at Lake View High School, has been named the South Carolina Association of School Resource Officers (SCASRO) 2015 Pee Dee Region School Resource Officer of the Year.
The award was presented for his outstanding contributions to the school he serves, his law enforcement agency, and community.  Cook was presented the award last week at the annual SCASRO conference.
Officers are nominated for the award by their peers, superintendent, or principal.
This is Cook’s fourth year as the school resource office at Lake View High School; however, he has been a school resource officer for six years having served previously at Creek Bridge.  He has a total of 16 years of law enforcement experience.  Cook is currently the Sgt. At Arms of the SCASRO board.
Cook said he enjoys what he does and enjoys being at the school, being a mentor to the kids, and being a positive role model which he says is what all of the school resource officers try to do.
He said he would like to thank Sheriff Major Hulon, Principal Edison Arnette, and Superintendent Ray Rogers for the opportunity to serve at Lake View High School.
Cook said he would like to thank his family including his wife, Chanda, son, Caleb, and daughter, Rebecca, for supporting him.
Dillon High School SRO Marion Ford, who is the Pee Dee representative on the SCASRO board, said Cook is very deserving of the award.  “He works hard, and the school administrators are glad to have him at the school,” said Ford.
He also noted that Cook had a good rapport with the students and faculty.
SCASRO is a statewide association for School Resource Officers that was formed in 1996.
