Diamond Backs Win Top Gun Florence Grand Slam

The 10U Diamond Backs 05 won the Top Gun Florence Grand Slam tournament on Saturday, May 16, in Florence, SC. The Diamond Backs went undefeated on the day and defeated the Florence Knockouts 10-2 to win the championship.

In the first game of the day, the Diamond Backs earned a 13-2 win over Lady Revolution. Logan Grice got the win on the mound, pitching two innings for two hits, two earned runs, three walks, and three outs, and Taryn Weatherford pitched one inning for three hits, one walk, and one out.

Tabitha Williams led at bat, going 2-for-2 with three RBI, two stolen bases, and one run scored; Raven Locklear went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run; Ryleigh Schurlknight picked up two RBI; Riley Calcutt went 1-for-1 with one RBI and also drew a walk for two runs scored; Jorden Perritt went 1-for-2 with one RBI; Ashton Goodwin went 1-for-1 with one walk and two runs; Taryn Weatherford went 1-for-2 with one RBI and one run; Logan Grice went 1-for-2 with one walk, a stolen base, and one run; Kaylee Holloway went 1-for-1 with a walk for two runs; Lindsey Floyd went 1-for-1 with one RBI, one walk, and two runs; and Averi Lovell drew a walk for one RBI, two stolen bases, and one run.

In game two, the Diamond Backs edged the Knockouts 1-0 in four innings. Floyd went 1-for-1 for the only hit and scored on a walk from Williams. Holloway and Schurlknight also drew walks.

Calcutt got the win, pitching one inning with no hits. Weatherford gave up one walk in one inning on the mound, and Weatherford struck out four in two innings to get the save.

In game three, the Diamond Backs downed Lady Revolution 8-3 in four innings. Locklear got the win on the mound, pitching three innings for three hits, three runs, two walks, and three outs. Floyd got the save, pitching one inning for just one walk and three outs.

Grice led at bat, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run; Williams went 1-for-1 with one run; Weatherford went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run; Schurlknight went 1-for-1 with two runs and two stolen bases, also reaching on a hit by pitch; Floyd went 1-for-2 with one run; Locklear drew a walk; Lovell scored one run on a walk; Goodwin went 1-for-1 with two RBI; Calcutt went 1-for-2 with a fielder’s choice; and Perritt scored two runs with a stolen base and also drew a walk.

In game four, the Diamond Backs defeated the Knockouts 9-1 in three innings with Williams earning the win, pitching all three innings for just one hit, one run, and two walks, striking out five.

Weatherford led at bat, going 2-for-2 for two RBI and two runs scored; Locklear went 1-for-2 with a triple, two RBI, and one run; Williams went 1-for-2 with one run; Holloway drew two walks for one run and one RBI; Grice scored two runs with one RBI on two walks; Schurlknight went 1-for-2; Floyd went 1-for-2 with one RBI; Lovell picked up one RBI; Goodwin scored one run with one RBI on two walks; and Calcutt scored one run.

In the tournament championship, the Diamond Backs defeated the Knockouts 10-2 in five innings with Williams earning the win on the mound in a complete game effort. She gave up three hits, two runs, one earned run, and four walks while striking out nine batters.

Locklear led at bat, going 3-for-3 with two home runs, six RBI, and three runs scored. Grice went 2-for-2 with two runs, also reaching on a hit by pitch; Floyd went 2-for-2 with a double, one RBI, and one run, also reaching on a walk; Weatherford went 1-for-3 with a double, one RBI, and one run; Calcutt went 1-for-2 with one run, also drawing a walk; Holloway went 1-for-1 and drew two walks; Williams drew a walk with one stolen base and one RBI; Schurlknight drew a walk with one RBI; Lovell drew a walk and reached on a hit by pitch; and Goodwin drew two walks and scored two runs in the win.
