Seven Local Baseball Players Earn Postseason Honors

Latta’s John Kever Love was named the Class A Player of the Year and six other local players were named All-State by the South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association.

Love went 11-3, including a 4-1 postseason record, with a 1.48 ERA this season, striking out 123 batters in 89.2 innings on the mound for the Vikings. He also got the win in the championship game against Lewisville, giving up seven hits, four runs, one earned run, and three walks, and striking out 11.

At bat this season, Love hit .464 with 38 RBI and had one home run at bat.

Love has signed on to play with the College of Charleston.

In addition to Love, Latta’s Jackson Williams and Austin Miller were also named All-State. Both were key players in Latta’s championship season. In the state series, Williams was 4-for-7 with three RBI, three runs scored, a double, and a home run, and Miller was 3-for-6 with two RBI, a double, and two runs.

Lake View’s Weston Rogers, Carson Rogers, and Josh Price were also named to the Class A All-State team. The three junior Wild Gators helped Lake View to a 20-7 finish this season.

In Class 2A, Dillon’s Patrick Herring was named to the All-State list. Herring played the key position of catcher had four home runs this season and 30 RBI to help the Wildcats to a 16-8 finish and their first state title series appearance since 2008. He has signed to play at Florence-Darlington Tech.
