Diamond Backs Win Spring Swing

The Dillon Diamond Backs 05 won the 2015 USSSA Spring Swing in Sumter, SC on Saturday, April 18.

The Diamond Backs went undefeated on the day and beat the CC Red Hotz 4-1 to claim the championship.

In the first game, the Diamond Backs earned a 16-0 shut out win over the SC Jets.

Summer Bullard went 2-for-3 with a triple, a double, and three runs scored, also reaching on an error; Logan Grice went 2-for-3 with two doubles; Taryn Weatherford went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, also reaching on a walk; Kaylee Holloway went 2-for-2 with one run; Lindsey Floyd went 1-for-3 with one run; Raven Locklear went 1-for-2 with two runs, also drawing a walk; Ashton Goodwin went 1-for-2 and drew a walk for three runs, also reaching on an error; Riley Calcutt went 1-for-2 with one run; Ryleigh Schurlknight drew two walks; and Averi Lovell and Reilly Howell each drew a walk.

Weatherford got the win on the mound, pitching one inning for one hit, two walks, and one out. Calcutt pitched one inning for two outs.

In game two, Dillon battled for a 3-2 win over the CC Red Hotz. Dillon had five hits and one error in the win. Bullard got the win on the mound, pitching five innings for four hits, two runs, two earned runs, one walk, and nine outs.

Bullard led at bat, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Holloway went 1-for-2; Floyd went 1-for-1; Calcutt went 1-for-2; and Grice scored one run on a walk.

In the third game, Dillon defeated SC Illusion 5-3. Dillon had five hits and four errors. Floyd got the win, pitching four innings for one hit, three runs, two walks, and six outs.

At bat for Dillon, Bullard went 1-for-2 with a triple; Calcutt went 1-for-1 with a triple; Schurlknight went 1-for-1 with a double; Weatherford went 1-for-2 with one run; Locklear went 1-for-2 with one run, also reaching on a walk; and Grice, Floyd, and Goodwin each scored one run on a walk.

The Diamond Backs claimed the tournament title with a 4-1 win over the CC Red Hotz in the championship game. Dillon had three hits in the win. Bullard got the win on the mound, pitching four innings for two hits, one run, one earned run, three walks, and six outs.

Floyd went 1-for-2 for a double with one run scored and a fielder’s choice in the win; Bullard went 2-for-2 with one run; Grice scored one run on walk; Schurlknight drew a walk; Locklear drew a walk; Holloway got a fielder’s choice; Goodwin reached on an error and scored one run; and Weatherford made a sacrifice bunt.
