Lady Gators Fall 7-2 to Vikings in Lower State Elimination Bracket

Lake View’s Lady Wild Gators fell 7-2 to the Lady Vikings in Latta on Tuesday night in a Class A lower state elimination game.

Lake View finished the season with a 17-8 record as the Lady Vikings advanced to take on Hannah-Pamplico in another elimination bracket matchup on Wednesday night.

After two scoreless innings, Lake View led off the top of the third with singles from Shakiara Parker, Ashley Rogers, and Marissa Tyndall to load the bases. But a fielder’s choice from Logan Spivey put Parker out on the way home, and Latta pitcher Dori Webster retired Ally Spivey and Kayla Page to end the threat with the bases still loaded.

Latta picked up three runs in the bottom of the third. With one out, Kaleigh Caulder reached on a walk and Kyra Grant made a base hit to put runners on first and second. Lake View pitcher Marissa Tyndall struck out Madison Owens, but Macy Hyatt hit a double to bring in both runners. Camryn Sawyer followed with a single, and Webster singled to score Hyatt for the 3-0 lead before Genesis Anderson flew out to end the inning with runners on first and third.

Lake View went three up, three down in the top of the fourth with three grounders. Latta’s Maddy Long reached on an error in the bottom of the inning and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Kurstin Hopkins and a grounder from Caulder, but Tyndall struck out Grant to end the inning with Long on third.

Lake View got on the board in the top of the fifth with Parker leading off with a single, followed by Rogers and Tyndall to once more load the bases. Parker scored on an error, and Logan Spivey hit into a fielder’s choice to take out Tyndall on the way to second for the first out. Ally Spivey followed with a single, but Webster struck out Kayla Page, and Madison Greene got another fielder’s choice to ut Ally Spivey out on the way to second and end the threat with three runners on base.

Latta opened the bottom of the inning with a fly from Owens and Hyatt drew a walk. Singles from Sawyer and Webster loaded the bases, and an error got Anderson to base and scored Hyatt. Long singled to bring in Sawyer, but Hopkins hit a fly for the second out. CAulder singled to help bring in Webster and Anderson, and Grant ground out to leave the Vikings ahead 7-1.

Lake View went three up, three down in the top of the sixth with a grounder from Alex Elliott, a walk from Madison Cox, and a fielder’s choice from Parker. Parker was caught attempting to steal second to send the Vikings to bat. Latta led off the bottom of the inning with a grounder and a fly ball. Sawyer got a base hit, but a grounder from Webster ended the inning.

Lake View scored their last run of the season in the top of the seventh. Rogers and Tyndall both reached on errors, but Logan Spivey hit into a double play that took Rogers out on the way to third. Tyndall advanced to second on the play and scored on a single from Ally Spivey, who was caught stealing to end the game.

Webster pitched a complete game for the win with nine hits, two runs, one earned run, two walks, and four outs.

Tyndall pitched six innings for 11 hits, seven runs, five earned runs, two walks, and five outs.

At bat for Latta, Dori Webster went 3-for-4 with one RBI; Camryn Sawyer went 3-for-4 with one run scored; Kyra Grant went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and one run scored; Macy Hyatt went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI, also reaching on a walk; Kaleigh Caulder went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored, also reaching on a walk; Maddy Long went 1-for-3 with one RBI, also reaching on an error; Genesis Anderson picked up one RBI and reached on an error; Kurstin Hopkins made a sacrifice bunt; Casey Prescott scored two runs; and D’Anna Tanner scored one run.

Kyra Grant and Genesis Anderson got the double play in the field. The Lady Vikings had three errors in the win.

At bat for Lake View, Shakiara Parker went 2-for-3 with one run scored, also getting a fielder’s choice; Ally Spivey went 2-for-4 with one RBI; Marissa Tyndall went 2-for-4 with one run scored and also reached on an error; Ashley Rogers went 2-for-4 and also reached on an error; Madison Greene went 1-for-3 and also got a fielder’s choice; Logan Spivey had two fielder’s choice hits; and Madison Cox and Alex Elliott each drew walks.

“Our girls have worked extremely hard this season and I couldn’t be more proud of them,” said Latta Head Coach Stephanie Johnson. “One of the major things that I contribute to our girls’ success is that they work together and play for each other. Our team is a family and families stick together.”

“Lake View has always been a tough competitor and they always have a lot of talent. They should definitely be proud of their season,” Coach Johnson added. “I am proud of our Pee Dee area teams!”

Latta improved to 26-6 overall. The winner of Wednesday night’s elimination game will face East Clarendon on Friday.
