Wild Gators Down Timmonsville, Fall to Bamberg in District Finale

The Lake View Wild Gators earned a 20-0 win over Timmonsville on Monday, May 4, but fell to Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Wednesday night in the Class A District V baseball championship.

After falling 6-3 to Bamberg-Ehrhardt in round two on Saturday, Lake View faced elimination on Monday night as they hosted Timmonsville. But the Gators cruised to a 20-0 win, picking up 11 runs in the bottom of the first and nine runs in the bottom of the second to end the game in three innings.

On the mound for the Gators, Nick Collins pitched one inning for one walk and one out, and Peyton Cox gave up two hits in two innings and struck out five. For the Whirlwinds, Price pitched one inning for eight hits, 11 runs, 11 earned runs, three walks, and two hit by pitch. McCray pitched one inning for six hits, nine runs, four earned runs, two walks, and one hit by pitch.

At bat for Lake View, Weston Rogers went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored; Josh Price went 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI, and two runs scored; Justin Elliott went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored; Brent Herlong went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI, and one run scored; Delvon Bethea went 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run; William Scott went 1-for-1 with a double and one RBI; Nick Collins went 1-for-2 with one RBI and two runs, also reaching on a walk and an error and stealing a base; Stone Spivey scored one run on a fielder’s choice; Carson Rogers went 1-for-1 with one run scored, also reaching on a hit by pitch; Peyton Cox went 1-for-1 with two runs scored, also reaching on a hit by pitch; Will Arnette scored one run on a walk; Webb Cardwell scored one run with one RBI, also reaching on a walk; Luc Newell scored one run on a walk; Jeremy Moody scored one run with one RBI, reaching on an error; Hunter Stevens scored one run, reaching on a hit by pitch; and De’Ante Bridgett scored one run on a walk.

For the Whirlwinds, Kirkland went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and McCray went 1-for-1 with a walk. Timmonsville had three errors in the effort.

The win advanced the Wild Gators to the District V championship on Wednesday night, where they faced Bamberg-Ehrhardt, falling 4-3 to the Red Raiders.

Lake View ends the season with a 20-7 record.

Bamberg proceeded on to the first round of the lower state playoffs, where they fell 2-1 to Hannah-Pamplico on Saturday. The Red Raiders faced elimination on Monday night against East Clarendon as Latta prepared to host Hannah-Pamplico in the winners bracket game.
