Dillon First Baptist Celebrates Easter

Dillon First Baptist Church began an early celebration of the Easter season on February 8th with a small group study based on the book, “Cries from the Cross,” by Erwin W. Lutzer. This is a study of the seven sayings of Jesus while on the cross. Dr. William R. Cullum, Jr., Pastor, delivered a series of sermons to accompany the study, which concluded on Palm Sunday, March 29th. Dr. Cullum delivered a message on the last saying, “A Cry of Submission:” (“Father, into Your hands, I commit My spirit.” Luke 23:46), and the ordinance of communion was observed during the service.
Easter Sunday began at 6:45 a.m. with a sunrise service at the cross on the grounds of the church. The service included congregational singing and special music by Katharine Carlson Moody. Rev. Michael Sapp, Associate Pastor of Students, delivered a meditation about the hope all Christians have because we serve a risen Savior. At the conclusion of the service, everyone enjoyed a breakfast prepared and served by the Deacons of the church.
Following breakfast, members of FBC and guests attended Connect Bible Study at 9:15 a.m. Easter Worship Service began at 10:30 a.m. with an over-flow congregation attending the service which included the ordinance of baptism, congregational singing, and special music.
Dr. Cullum delivered the Easter sermon, “Tears Transformed,” taken from John 20:11-18. The sermon emphasized that the tears of sadness at the foot of the cross Friday became tears of joy at the empty tomb Sunday, a reminder that Christians serve a living Savior!
