Local Teams Ranked in State Baseball Polls

Dillon, Latta, and Lake View were all ranked in the top 10 in the latest South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association polls on Tuesday, April 14.

Dillon was ranked eighth in the state in Class 2A, with Waccamaw ranked fifth. The Wildcats fell 4-0 to Waccamaw on March 31 and held a 6-5 record overall and a 5-1 record in Region 8-2A heading into this week’s games.

Ninety Six was ranked first in the state in 2A, followed by Mid-Carolina ,Woodruff, and Buford. Blacksburg was ranked sixth and Strom Thurmond was seventh, followed by Bishop England in ninth and Newberry in tenth.

In Class A, the Latta Vikings were ranked third in the state and Lake View was ranked sixth. The Vikings defeated the Wild Gators 11-0 on Tuesday night and are undefeated in Region 8-A, while Lake View is now 7-2.

Fox Creek and East Clarendon held the top spots in the state in Class A. East Clarendon defeated Dillon twice this season, 4-1 and 6-2, in non-conference action.

McBee and Lewisville were ranked fourth and fifth. Bamberg was ranked seventh, and Hannah-Pamplico, Southside Christian, and Lamar rounded out the rest of the top 10.

In Class 3A, Belton-Honea Path, Hartsville, Airport, Berkeley, and Eastside made up the top five, and in Class 4A it was Summerville, JL Mann, Wando, Northwestern, and Dutch Fork.
