Wild Gators Down Green Sea 10-2

Lake View’s Wild Gators defeated the Green Sea-Floyds Trojans 10-2 on Friday night in varsity baseball action.

Green Sea scored their first run in the top of the first with Strickland reaching on a single, advancing with a stolen base and a grounder from Briggs, and scoring on a passed ball. The Trojan held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the second when Lake View picked up three runners with Nick Collins leading off with a walk. A sacrifice bunt from Luc Newell advanced Collins, who went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a grounder from Connor Anderson. With two outs, Hunter Stevens reached on an error, and advanced on a single from Weston Rogers. Stevens scored on a passed ball, and Rogers scored on an error to put Lake View up 3-1.

In the top of the third, Green Sea scored again to cut the lead to 3-2. With two outs, Jordan drew a walk, advanced on errors, and scored on a wild pitch before Strickland struck out to end the inning.

Neither team could score again until the Gators broke loose for five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Josh Price hit a solo home run, and Justin Elliott drew a walk and Brent Herlong reached on an error. Collins hit a sacrifice fly to advance the runners and score Elliott, and Newell singled to score Herlong. Anderson singled to help bring in Newell, and advanced on an error and a stolen base to score on a wild pitch for an 8-2 lead.

Lake View capped the win with two runs in the bottom of the sixth as Price singled and Herlong drew a walk, with both runners scoring on a triple from Collins. Weston Rogers struck out two Trojans in the top of the seventh and another hit a fly to end the game and leave Graham stranded after reaching on an error.

Rogers pitched a complete game with two hits, two runs, and one walk, striking out 13 batters. Green Sea’s Gilliard pitched 4.2 innings for four hits, eight runs, one earned run, four walks, one home run, one hit by pitch, and one wild pitch, striking out three. Marrow pitched 1.1 innings for relief for two hits, two runs, two earned runs, two walks, one wild pitch, and one out.

At bat for the Trojans, Strickland went 1-for-3 with one run and one stolen base; Graham went 1-for-3; and Jordan scored one run. The Trojans had two hits and six errors in the effort.

At bat for the Gators, Josh Price went 2-for-4 with a home run, one RBI, and two runs scored and also had a fielder’s choice hit; Nick Collins went 1-for-2 with three RBI, a triple, and one run scored, also reaching on a walk and getting a fielder’s choice hit; Connor Anderson went 1-for-3 with two RBI, a stolen base, and one run; Luc Newell went 1-for-3 with one run and a fielder’s choice hit; Weston Rogers went 1-for-4 with one run; Brent Herlong scored two runs, drew a walk, and had a fielder’s choice hit; Justin Elliott scored one run on a walk and a hit by pitch; Hunter Stevens scored on a walk; and Carson Rogers drew two walks.

Lake View improved to 18-5 overall and 7-1 in Region 8-A. The Wild Gators are scheduled to host the Latta Vikings tonight at 5:30 p.m.
