Wild Gators Dominate in Baseball Action

The Lake View Wild Gators improved to 6-0 in the regular season this week, shutting out Marion 12-0 and defeating Mullins 10-1.

On Tuesday, the Gators were at Marion and opened the top of the first inning with five runs. Carson Rogers reached on a hit by pitch and Weston Rogers hit a home run to score both runners. Josh Price reached on a hit by pitch and stole second, and advanced to third as Justin Elliott ground out. Brent Herlong reached on an error to score Price, and Luc Newell hit into a fielder’s choice with Herlong going out on the way to second. Duane Nichols was hit by pitch to put runners on first and second, and an error for Nick Collins allowed Newell to score. A wild pitch allowed Nichols to cross the plate for a 5-0 lead before De’Ante Bridgett flew out.

Neither team could score through the next three innings, but the Gators added three runs in the top of the fifth. Weston Rogers led off with a single and stole second before advancing to third and scoring on an error. Elliott and Herlong both reached on errors and Elliott scored on the last play before Newell singled. Nichols reached on a hit by pitch, and Collins singled to score Herlong to end the scoring in the inning with the Gators up 8-0.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Lake View picked up four more runs in the seventh. Nichols and Collins both singled and Stone Spivey hit into a fielder’s choice to send Collins out on the way to second. Spivey stole second, and Nichols and Spivey both scored. Carson Rogers reached on an error, and Weston Rogers singled to advance Carson to third. Price lined out, and Connor Anderson doubled to score Carson. Will Arnette singled to score Weston, but Newell flew out to end the game.

Carson Rogers pitched four innings with one walk and six outs in the no-hitter, and Nick Collins pitched three innings, striking out five. On the mound for Marion, Darius Hunt pitched four innings for five hits, three runs, and three outs; Peyton Britt pitched two innings for five hits, four runs, two earned runs, and one out; and Zachary Shelley pitched one inning with one hit, five runs, two earned runs, and one homer.

Weston Rogers led the Gators at bat, going 4-for-5 with with three runs, two RBI and a homer. Nick Collins went 2-for-4 with one RBI; Duane Nichols went 1-for-2 with two runs; Brent Herlong went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run; Justin Elliott went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI; Connor Anderson went 1-for-1 for a double and one RBI; Luc Newell went 1-for-4 with one run; Carson Rogers scored two runs; and Josh Price and Stone Spivey scored one run each. Lake View had 11 hits in the win.

On Thursday, the Gators picked up a 10-1 win over Mullins at home in Lake View.

Lake View’s Weston Rogers hit into a fielder’s choice in the first inning stole second, and scored on a single from Josh Price to put the Gators up 1-0 in the bottom of the first. In the second, Collins and Newell both reached on walks and scored on singles from Nichols and Carson Rogers.

In the third, Anderson reached on a walk and scored on a double from Newell, and in the fourth, Weston Rogers doubled, advanced on a grounder from Price, and scored on a single from Elliott to put the Gators up 5-0.

Mullins scored their only run in the top of the fifth inning with Hilburn reaching on an error, advancing on a single from Harrell, and scoring on an error. In the bottom of the inning, Lake View brought in four runners, with Bridgett drawing a walk and Collins reaching on a single. Newell reached on an intent walk, and Carson Rogers singled to score Bridgett and keep the bases loaded. A walk from Weston Rogers scored Collins, and a sacrifice fly from Price scored Newell. Rogers came home on a dropped third strike that allowed Elliott to reach first, but Herlong ground out to end the inning.

Lake View picked up one last run in the sixth to seal the win with Spivey reaching on a single, stealing second, and scoring on a grounder from Newell.

Josh Price pitched five innings for the Gators and allowed just two hits and one run with three outs, and Brent Herlong pitched two innings for two hits and three outs.

Fowler took the loss for Mullins, pitching six innings for nine hits, 10 runs, nine earned runs, eight walks, and five outs.

At bat for the Gators, Carson Rogers was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored; Weston Rogers was 1-for-2 with a double, one RBI, two stolen bases, and two runs scored; Luc Newell was 1-for-2 with a double, two RBI, and two runs; Josh Price went 1-for-3 with two RBI; Justin Elliott and Duane Nichols were both 1-for-4 with one RBI; Nick Collins was 1-for-2 with two runs scored; Stone Spivey was 1-for-1 with one run and a stolen base; and Connor Anderson and De’Ante Bridgett each scored a run.

Mullins was led by Harrel, 3-for-3, and and Hilburn and Squires both went 1-for-3.

Lake View is scheduled to travel to Carvers Bay tonight to open region play and will be back home on Wednesday to host Creek Bridge in a doubleheader. Game times are set for 5:30 p.m. so make plans to attend to support our local team!
