By Betsy Finklea
Several people who aided fire victims were recognized at the February meeting of the Latta Town Council by Latta Fire Chief Josh Holt. Holt first recognized Christa Edwards, an assistant bus driver, and Della Godbolt, a bus driver, for their efforts at a structure fire on 209 Covington Street on January 12. Holt said Edwards ran into the house and pulled out a kerosene heater that was on fire saving the home while Godbolt called 9-1-1 to get the fire department. Holt then recognized Tracy Fleming, Shawn Smith, Larry Grice, and Curt LeGette who helped get a woman out of a home at 308 Munn Street that was on fire on January 14. Holt said when the fire department arrived the structure was fully engulfed. The chief and council expressed their gratitude to these individuals for their efforts to save life and property at their own risk.
