Gators Ready for Another Deep Run

The Lake View Wild Gators are getting set for another run at the state championship.

Last season, the Gators finished third in Region 8-A but claimed the District VI title with a win over Carvers Bay and advanced all the way to the lower state championship before falling 7-5 to Latta. The Gators finished with a 16-7 record.

The Gators should fare well again this year after losing just one senior. The returning roster includes Weston Rogers and Carson Rogers who helped lead the Wild Gators last season. Weston had 25 hits and 19 stolen bases, and both Weston and Carson had six wins on the mound for the Gators and struck out more than 60 batters.

Josh Price will also be returning for the Gators this season. Price had 10 doubles, two homers and 11 stolen bases for 26 RBI last season, with a 1.96 ERA and 40 outs in 39 innings on the mound.

Head Coach Kip Herlong says his goal for the season is “to work hard and be the best team we can be.”

Herlong is in his 23rd year as head coach for Lake View and his coaching staff is returning again for the new season.

The Gators have some new faces in Region 8-A this season, including Carvers Bay and Hemingway, but Herlong says their toughest opponent will be themselves.

Lake View will travel to Mullins in the regular season opener on Monday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m., and will open region lay on Tuesday, March 17, at Carvers Bay.
