Erna Estelle Eanes McCormac

Spartanburg, SC – Erna Estelle Eanes McCormac, 85, peacefully passed into heaven on February 18, 2015, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with family present. Services are scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 3:00 at Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church in Dillon, South Carolina, with visitation preceding the service at 2:00 pm. Kannaday Funeral Home in Dillon is assisting the family.

Erna was born on November 14, 1929, in Hurt, Virginia, to Hubert Smith Eanes and Hattie Estelle Brooks Eanes. Erna spent most of her childhood in Lenoir, North Carolina, where her parents were employed at Hibriten Chair. Erna graduated from Lenoir High School in 1949 and then attended Lenoir-Rhyne College, where in 1953 she completed degrees in English and mathematics. She was employed by the Federal Government and worked at Cocoa Beach, Florida; Edwards Air Force Base, California; and Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, where she worked in the Math Lab with the ERA 1103 (UNIVAC).

Erna Estelle Eanes married Elias Alford McCormac III (of Dillon, South Carolina) in Valparaiso, Florida, in 1957. After her marriage, Erna retired from her work for the Air Force and raised four children. She was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Fort Walton Beach, where she taught Sunday School, served in the Women in the Church, and edited the church newsletter. She also enjoyed reading, watching college football and the Atlanta Braves, and playing weekly games of bridge with friends.

Erna is survived by her four children, John Alford McCormac (Rhonda) of Chelsea, AL; Nancy McCormac Sanders (Gary) of Dillon, SC; Susan McCormac Bennett (Chipley) of Spartanburg, SC; and Sara McCormac Holtz (Jack) of La Center, WA; grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Countess, Thomas Countess, Sarah Lynn McCormac, Angela Sanders Evans (Andy), Gary Tod Sanders (Brittany), Kelly Flynn Sanders Johnson (Tyler), Michael Chipley Bennett (Rachel), Anna Grace Bennett, Daniel McCormac Bennett, Joshua James Holtz, Carolyn Renee Holtz, and Eric Andrew Holtz; great-grandchildren, Noah Evans, Abby Evans, and Max Evans; sisters-in-law Jonnie Flynn McCormac Snyder (Robert) of Dillon, South Carolina, and Alice Lorenzen Eades.

Erna was predeceased by her husband Elias (Mac) Alford McCormac III, her brother Irvine Hubert Eades, and granddaughters Sarah Elizabeth Bennett and Katie Lynn Holtz.
