Basketball Playoffs Update: Wildcats to Play Auctioneers to Settle Region

Both Dillon and Latta boys and girls basketball teams will be making playoff appearances next week, but the Wildcats have to face the Auctioneers tonight to determine just where Dillon will enter the first round.

GIRLS

In Region 8-2A girls action, Dillon defeated Waccamaw 52-28 on Wednesday night, and Mullins defeated Marion 62-25, leaving both teams with a 9-1 record in the region. While both Dillon and Mullins will host their first round game, the Lady Wildcats will have to play the Lady Aucs tonight at Loris to determine the region title.

Waccamaw and Marion finished third and fourth respectively, and will be on the road for the first round of playoffs. The Class 2A girls playoffs are set to begin on Tuesday, February 17, at 7:00 p.m.

In Class A girls action, the Latta’s Lady Vikings took losses this week from Carvers Bay and Hemingway as the Lady Bears claimed the top spot in Region 8-A. Latta and Hemingway both finished region play with an 8-2 record, but the defending state champs will host a first round game while Hemingway will travel to Hannah-Pamplico on Monday, February 16, in the first round of the Class A playoffs.

BOYS

In Region 8-2A boys action, Dillon’s 68-54 win over Waccamaw on Wednesday night left the two teams tied at 7-3 in the Region. The Wildcats will face the Warriors again tonight at Loris at 7:30 p.m. with the winner taking the second place spot in the region.

Mullins already claimed the Region 8-2A title with an undefeated 10-0 record and will host a first round playoff game on Wednesday, February 18, at 7:00 p.m. The winner of the Dillon/Waccamaw game will also host the first round of the playoffs, while the loser will be on the road.

In Region 8-A, the Latta Vikings already claimed the region title and home court advantage in the first round of the Class A playoffs on Tuesday, despite losing to Carvers Bay and Hemingway in the last week of regular season action. The Bears finished second in the region and will host a first round game, while Hemingway and Creek Bridge will be on the road on Tuesday.
