The Latta Vikings defeated Green Sea Floyds on Friday night to secure their first region title in boys varsity basketball since 2002.
The Vikings earned a 65-53 win over the Trojans to secure the Region 8-A crown with an undefeated 8-0 record.
TyQuan Porter led the Vikings with 23 points and Diez Mungro earned 12 in the win, with Kartilus McFadden scoring 11 and Davonta Porter earning 10 for the Vikings.
Latta improved to 12-4 overall and 8-0 in the Region while Green Sea Floyds slipped to 3-5.
The Vikings have two more region games left in the regular season, and will be on the road to take on Carvers Bay tonight and Hemingway on Thursday. The Bears and the Tigers are both 5-3 heading into the final week of the regular season.
The 2015 Class A boys basketball playoffs will begin on Tuesday, February 17, with Latta hosting the first round against Region 7-A’s fourth place team.
