Wildcats Fall 80-64 to Waccamaw

The Dillon Wildcats fell 80-64 to the Waccamaw Warriors on the road on Tuesday night in boys varsity basketball action.

Waccamaw took a 22-9 lead in the first quarter, and kept up the pressure with a 19-17 second quarter to lead 41-26 at the half. The Wildcats rallied in the third, outpacing the Warriors 25-18 to close the gap to 59-51, but Waccamaw used a 23-13 fourth quarter to seal the win.

Lawrence Crouch and JaQuan Knowlin each scored 15 points to lead the Wildcats in the effort. Omar McCollum added 8 points; A. McCollum, 7; CJ Sowells, 7; Que Bethea, 6; Rakeem Fletcher, 5; and Avery McCall, 1. Both McCollums had a three-point goal, and Sowells also scored on a three-pointer.

Waccamaw was led by Rob Ferraro with a game-high 19 points. Karim Stanley, Justin Busby, and Doug Roe each added 12 points in the win, and Jemon Smalls and Jack Dwyer each earned 10. Justin Hardee added five points for the Warriors, and Kinley Vereen scored two. Ferraro, Busby, and Hardee each sank a three-pointer in the win.

Waccamaw improved to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in Region 8-2A, while the Wildcats slipped to 9-8 overall and 3-2 in the region.

Dillon will be at home to host Aynor this Friday and will be on the road next Tuesday, February 3, to take on the Mullins Auctioneers. Mullins currently leads the region with an undefeated 5-0 record. Game times are set for 6:00 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local team!
