Mrs. Eledith (Ledy) Elliott Knotts, 82, passed away January 11, 2015 at Pruitt Health Nursing Home of Walterboro, SC.
A funeral service will he Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 1:00 pm at Bear Swamp Baptist Church of Lake View. Burial will follow at Bear Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday at 11:30 am, prior to the funeral, at Cooke Funeral Home of Lake View.
Eledith grew up in Lake View, SC. She married Delano Stroud after graduating from Lake View High and settled to raise three children in Florence, SC after living briefly in Norfolk, VA and Columbia, SC. Ledy worked for several years at Florence Morning News until 1977.
She moved with her second husband Ray Knotts to Nichols, SC to care for her aging father, John Hamilton Elliott, in 1981. After his death in 1987, she moved to Walterboro, SC where she worked for Thompson’s General Store until its closure.
She was preceded in death by both parents, John H. Elliott and Aileen Page Elliott; her brother, John (Buddy) Elliott; and her daughter, Debra Byrd of Round O, SC. She is survived by her son, Danny (Lorrie) Stroud of Port Royal, SC; daughter Martha Stroud (Jed Arnold) of Seattle, WA; sisters, Florine Holt of Georgetown, SC and Ruby (Mac) Newton of Norfolk, VA; five grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ledy was a woman of faith, kind, and loved to laugh. She enjoyed music, nature, and life’s simple pleasures. She was well cared for and loved by the staff Pruitt Health of Walterboro during her 10-year residency there as a dementia patient. The family would like to thank her long time roommate, Mrs. Annie Wiggins of Smoaks, SC; along with the wonderful Nurses and CNAs that went above and beyond to care for her, and especially Pruitt Health Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.
