Lady Vikings Earn 62-23 Win Over Warriors

Latta’s Lady Vikings earned a 62-23 win over the visiting Creek Bridge Warriors on Friday night in girls varsity basketball action.

The Lady Vikings took a 19-2 lead in the first quarter and were ahead 31-11 at the half. Latta shut out the Warriors 17-0 in the third quarter, and held them off 14-12 in the fourth to seal the win.

TaKeria Legette earned 18 points for the Vikings, and Mallory Townsend scored 16. Maya Wright added 14 points for Latta, and Margaret Desser, Madelia Johnson, Tamera Campbell, Riana Green, Koesha James, and TyKeria Manning each contributed two points in the win.

Latta improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-A.

Tonight, the Lady Vikings are set to host the Hemingway Tigers. The two teams battled for the lower state title last season, with Latta claiming a 58-48 win before advancing to claim the state championship. Hemingway is 10-2 so far this season and holds a 2-0 record in Region 8-A.

Game time is set for 6:00 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local team!

BOYS

In varsity boys action, Latta defeated Creek Bridge 61-51. The Vikings took a 19-11 lead in the first quarter and were ahead 33-20 at the half.

Latta improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in Region 8-A. The Vikings will host Hemingway tonight and be at Gree Sea-Floyds on Friday with boys action following the varsity girls game at 6:00 p.m.
