Wildcats Take Third Place in Farm Bureau Classic

The Dillon Wildcats finished in third place in the Farm Bureau Classic boys basketball tournament in Chesterfield, SC, last week.

The Wildcats opened the tournament on Monday, December 29, with an 82-70 win over Camden.

JaQuan Knowlin led the Wildcats with 28 points in the win, and Lawrence Crouch added 16 points for the Wildcats. Rakeem Fletcher added eight points for Dillon, with Raheem McClam and Joseph Manning each adding six. Avery McCall scored 4; Bethea, 2; and CJ Sowells, 2.

On Tuesday, the Wildcats slipped 46-43 against Cheraw in the second round.

Both teams put up nine points in the first quarter but Dillon pulled ahead with an 11-6 second to lead 20-15 at the half. But the Braves went 15-10 in the third to tie the game 30-30 heading into the fourth, where they outscoring Dillon 16-13 to take the win.

Cheraw’s Zach Sellers earned a game-high 14 points and Dalvin Taylor added 12 in the win. Wanye Jones added 10; Montel Myers, 8; and Cameron Gainey, 2. Jones grabbed 13 rebounds and Taylor picked up 10.

Knowlin again led the Wildcats with a team-high 13 points.

Cheraw advanced to the championship, while Dillon moved on to battle for third place on Wednesday night, claiming a 62-53 win over Creek Bridge.

Cheraw fell 64-51 to Forest Hills in the title game, with Desmond Lindsey scoring a game-high 20 points for the Yellow Jackets. Sellers again led the Braves with a team-high 18 points.

The Wildcats will head back into regular season action this week with a 5-5 record.

Dillon will host Latta tonight at 6:00 p.m. in varsity action and will be at Latta on Friday night. Make plans to attend to support our local teams!
