One person was killed in a collision that occurred on U.S. Highway 301 near East Countryside Road on Saturday, December 13 at approximately 5:40 p.m., according to Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Coroner Donnie Grimsley identifies the victim as Donald Wayne Hayes, age 68, of Lake View. Hayes died as a result of multiple injuries sustained in the wreck, Grimsley said.
According to Wimberly, a 1999 Honda Accord was traveling north on U.S. Highway 301 when it went off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and struck a 1993 four-door Buick head on.
The driver and the front seat passenger of the Honda Accord were also injured and were taken to the hospital.
Wimberly said that the S.C. Highway Patrol MAIT team is investigating the collision and that charges are pending at this time.
