McLeod Following In Her Family’s Footsteps With Career In Law Enforcement

By Betsy Finklea
Sherida T. McLeod is following in her family’s footsteps in her career as a police officer with the City of Dillon Police Department. McLeod, who joined the city police force on September 11, 2014, was inspired by her aunt, Kimberly McLeod, and her uncle, Ernest Inman, and their careers in law enforcement.

McLeod is a 2008 graduate of Dillon High School and a 2012 graduate of Coastal Carolina University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. McLeod started her law enforcement career with Probation and Parole in Orangeburg. She graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy on March 7, 2014.
McLeod has always wanted to be a police officer because she loves to help people and to see everything done right. McLeod said her parents, Sherida A. McLeod and Prince J. Dunson, pushed her to be a better person. She loves being a part of law enforcement and making change. “It’s not how many people you arrest,” said McLeod. “It’s how many lives you save in the process.”
McLeod has a two-year-old daughter, Ruby M. McLeod. She is a member of St. Matthew AME Church in Hamer, where Rev. Johnnie O. Coe is pastor. McLeod loves to laugh and to help people, and she enjoys her family and making a difference.
She would like to thank Chief Joe Rogers and captain David Lane for giving her the opportunity to make a big part of her dreams come true by being a police officer in her community.
