State Football Champions Crowned

While our local teams played for state titles just after Thanksgiving, the last of the state football championship games of the season were played this past Saturday, December 6.

In Class A, Division I, Christ Church and Bamberg-Ehrhardt squared off for the title, with Christ Church earning their fourth consecutive state championship as the Cavaliers defeated the Red Raiders 23-14. The game was originally scheduled for November 28 but was postponed due to an eligibility issue with a Bamberg-Ehrhardt player. Christ Church finished with an undefeated 14-0 record.

The Division II title went to Hunter-Kinard-Tyler for the second year in a row as they defeated the Lake View Wild Gators 42-28 on November 28.

The Dillon Wildcats claimed the Class AA, Division I title with a 49-27 win over Newberry on November 28, and Timberland claimed the Division II title with a 35-12 win over Keenan.

In Class AAA, South Pointe held Hartsville to season lows as the Stallions defeated the Red Foxes 21-7 to claim the title on Saturday.

In Class AAAA, Division I, the Hillcrest Rams earned a 47-17 win over the Dutch Fork Foxes in an upset to claim the state title. It’s the first ever state football title for Hillcrest.

In Division II, the Spartanburg Vikings took a 49-28 win over the York Cougars for their first state title win since 2001.
