Lady Wildcats Dominate South Robeson 70-23

Dillon’s Lady Wildcats opened the girls basketball season on Tuesday night in Rowland, North Carolina, dominating South Robeson’s Lady Mustangs 70-23 in varsity action.

The Lady Wildcats took a 13-5 lead in the first quarter and held off an 11-point rally from the Mustangs in the second to lead 28-16 at the half. From then on it was all Dillon as the Wildcats went 13-2 in the third and 29-5 in the fourth to seal the win.

Khamele Manning lead the Lady Wildcats with a game-high 19 points and Da’Kerhia Samuel added six points with 21 rebounds in the win. Tejah Breeden earned 15 points and grabbed 19 rebounds for the Wildcats; Kendra McLeod added 11; Callie McRae, 7; McCullough, 4; Jelissa Fentzlaff, 4; Shar’Asia Samuel, 2; and Sowell, 2.

South Robeson was led by Ashtora Quick with nine points; Mitchell, 5; Rogers 4; and Troy, 2.
Dillon improved to 3-1 overall as they opened the regular season.

Dillon is coming off the best girls basketball season in the school’s history, with the Lady Wildcats earning a 26-1 record last season before falling to Bishop England in the Lower State championship. Dillon was ranked third in the state in preseason polls this year with Mullins earning the top spot and defending champ Bishop England in second place.

Much of the team is returning from last year, including Manning, Samuel, and Breeden. Dillon’s Yolanda Campbell should also be one to watch this season after averaging over 10 points and 13 rebounds per game last season.

The Lady Wildcats will hit the court again this Monday, December 8, at 6:00 p.m. at Marlboro County.
