Latta – Marie Whittington Allen, 100, died at Pruitt Health (Pines) of Dillon, Friday, October 10, 2014. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Catfish Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, October 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta.
Mrs. Allen was born on March 25, 1914, in Dillon County, SC, the daughter of the late Harriet Elizabeth Meggs and William Lafayette Whittington. She was a member of Catfish Creek Baptist Church. She worked for many years as a Librarian for Dillon County. She was the widow of Harley Allen.
She is survived by her son, Randy Allen (Patricia) of Jacksonville, FL; step-daughters, Evelyn Arrington of Maxton, NC and Joyce Zapantis of Tampa, FL; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many step-grandchildren; many great-step-grandchildren; and dearest friend Eloise Gardner. She was predeceased by her step-sons Floyd, Ralph, and S. J. Allen; brothers, Leslie and Billy Whittington; sisters, Ruth McKenzie, Clara Johnson, Sarah Carter, and Mary Whittington.
