Local Teams Shine in Preseason Football Action

The weekend saw preseason football action from all our local teams, with Dillon, Lake View, and Dillon Christian earning wins while Latta battled to a tie.

The Wildcats were at Marlboro County for the Dennis Miller Jamboree of Champions. Dillon faced Lamar for a 21-6 win with Jamison Chapman and Johnny Allen each scoring touchdowns for the Wildcats. Eri’Reon Hayes caught a touchdown pass from quarterback Avery McCall to help seal the win. Lamar’s only touchdown came from LaBradford Abson.

Other games at the Jamboree of Champions saw Darlington edge Central 21-20; Cheraw blank Manning 14-0; Hartsville defeated Chesterfield 21-20; and host Marlboro County defeat Keenan 21-12.

At the Marion County Jamboree on Saturday, Lake View earned a 13-6 win over host team Mullins. Reco Brown and James Inman each scored touchdowns to lead the Wild Gators in the victory. Mullins got on the scoreboard with a touchdown pass from Riyan Gore.

Marion defeated Green Sea Floyds 38-6 in the Jamboree, and Creek Bridge defeated Hannah-Pamplico 12-7. Myles Branham led Creek Bridge with two touchdown passes to Dejuan Surrency.

Also on Saturday, Latta played in the Founder’s Federal Credit Union Kickoff at Chesterfield, battling Chesterfield to a 7-7 tie.

McBee defeated Central 16-14 at the Kickoff, and Cheraw shut down Harding, NC, 28-6.
The Geathers Family Jamboree was also held on Saturday at Carvers Bay, with Johnsonville shutting out St. James 6-0; Hemingway defeating Georgetown 18-7; and Carvers Bay blanking Andrews 12-0.

The Sumter Jamboree was also played this weekend, with Lake Wood defeating Marion 21-14; Crestwood shutting out Timmonsville 9-0; and Sumter defeating Lake City 21-6.

In SCISA football, Dillon Christian played a scrimmage game in Fayetteville on Friday for a 37-19 performance. Coach Steve Johnson said there were “lots of bright spots” in the game and was particularly pleased with the younger players.

Florence Christian also hosted the Florence Christian Jamboree over the weekend, with Colleton Prep defeating The King’s Academy 31-7 and Florence Christian shutting out Pee Dee Academy 28-0. Florence Christian then faced Colleton Prep for a 22-14 win.

Local teams will continue to prepare this week for the upcoming start of their regular seasons.

Dillon Christian will be traveling to Thomas Sumter tonight for another scrimmage with Thomas Sumter and Holly Hill Academy. The Warriors won’t start their regular season until Friday, August 29, when they are scheduled to host Christian Academy.

The Latta Vikings will also have another week to practice before kicking off the season at home against Mullins on August 29 at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, Dillon and Lake View will get an early start in Week 0, with the Wildcats hosting North Myrtle Beach this Friday, August 22, and the Wild Gators hosting Scott’s Branch. Both games start at 7:30 p.m., so make plans to attend to support our local teams as they kickoff a new season!
