Ethel McDowell Elvington

     Services for Ethel McDowell Elvington will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Latta Baptist Church with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
     Mrs. Elvington, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home in Chapin.
     Born in Loris, SC, June 3, 1932, she was the daughter of the late James “Pink” McDowell and Callie Floyd McDowell.  She was a member of Latta Baptist Church, and retired as the Town Clerk of the Town of Latta.  She was the widow of the late Harry Elvington.  
     Survivors include her son, Fred (Sarah) Elvington of Irmo, SC; daughter, Cheryl (Scott) McLaughlin of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, Sean McLaughlin, Callie McLaughlin, Samantha Elvington, Walker Elvington.  She also leaves behind 2 step-grandchildren, Charles (Crystal) Arndt and their children, Shyann Arndt and McKenzie Arndt, Emily Arndt and her children, Gabrielle Wessinger and Dylan Wessinger; sisters, Virgie Boyd of Loris, SC, Eunice (Bill) Stevens of Tabor City, NC, Peggy (C.C.) Gore of Loris, and Pat (Joe) Culler of Summerville, SC; brother, Liston McDowell of Loris, SC.  Ethel also leaves behind many friends in Latta who she loved as family.
     Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
